So, several months ago I bought a Taurus PT1911, and I posted a pretty good range report of it back when I bought it here:

Anyway, just an update now that I have shot it lots more and have lived with it for awhile...

First, let me say that I freaking love my pistol. I have officially shot 793 rounds through it without a single failure. As far as I am concerned, this pistol has officially been moved to "stake my life on it" status. I very much like the Heinie Straight Eights, and am very pleased that Taurus is now offering these as standard on all of their pistols.

Still, there are some things that I don't like. First, the complaints about the finish are proving to be true. I am starting to see wear on the frame, and a bit on the slide. I don't think it is as bad as people make it out to be, but I would definitely say that it is premature. Second, I still am not a huge fan of the slide release. If it were a touch bigger, it would be many times better. Third, I have come to realize that bushings are a pain in my butt.

Overall, I am very pleased with this pistol. It is a nice, basic pistol that I can see using for a long, long time. My biggest complaint, the finish, is fairly minor when you consider that I can have it refinished in whatever I want and still be money ahead on the average cost of a competing 1911. Good pistol, great value.

EDIT: Also, the trigger was decent to begin with, and has now worn in to being a very good trigger. The hated gunlock has thus far proved to be a non-issue, and in fact I generally don't even think about it.

I am glad to see that there is another happy taurus 1911 owner, i have been giving one much thouhgt as well. great report and thank you but i must ask how is the accuracy? and how is the accuracy using the heinie sights? thanks.

finish, who cares, no matter what your gun is finished in, it is gonna wear sometime or another, that is the fact of the matter, but this will give you a good excuse to get it done up like you might have always been dreaming, i know i have always wanted my 1911 when i get one and my ar to match. i think that would be pretty darn sexy!

Second, I still am not a huge fan of the slide release. If it were a touch bigger, it would be many times better

to easy of a fix, find an aftermarket one and have it installed. there are always gonna be guns that have features that some people like and some that others don't but i am glad to see that taurus has more pros for me and you and most others i hear from than not. glad you like it and again thanks!

For me, the Heinie sights are very accurate. For whatever reason, they just work well for me. I can keep my shots inside a paper plate at any reasonable range all day, and for me thats good enough.

I just noticed I used the phrase "for me" three times in three sentences. I am apparently very self-centered. That makes sense because I am pretty awesome....:neener:

Nice to hear you pistol is working out well for you! ;) 1911s are great guns & IMO, every shooter/ collector should have at least one! :D
