So, several months ago I bought a Taurus PT1911, and I posted a pretty good range report of it back when I bought it here:
Anyway, just an update now that I have shot it lots more and have lived with it for awhile...
First, let me say that I freaking love my pistol. I have officially shot 793 rounds through it without a single failure. As far as I am concerned, this pistol has officially been moved to "stake my life on it" status. I very much like the Heinie Straight Eights, and am very pleased that Taurus is now offering these as standard on all of their pistols.
Still, there are some things that I don't like. First, the complaints about the finish are proving to be true. I am starting to see wear on the frame, and a bit on the slide. I don't think it is as bad as people make it out to be, but I would definitely say that it is premature. Second, I still am not a huge fan of the slide release. If it were a touch bigger, it would be many times better. Third, I have come to realize that bushings are a pain in my butt.
Overall, I am very pleased with this pistol. It is a nice, basic pistol that I can see using for a long, long time. My biggest complaint, the finish, is fairly minor when you consider that I can have it refinished in whatever I want and still be money ahead on the average cost of a competing 1911. Good pistol, great value.
EDIT: Also, the trigger was decent to begin with, and has now worn in to being a very good trigger. The hated gunlock has thus far proved to be a non-issue, and in fact I generally don't even think about it.
