Those XDs guns are just about as rare as hens teeth around here. I've had my 'hat in the pot' at my local dealer for quite some time and he has had them on order from his supplier.

Well, good fortune smiled on me today and one came in-naturally I snarfed it up quickly and headed to the range. Comes with 2 mags, a kydex paddle holster AND a carrier for extra mags. It has a loaded chamber indicator, grip safety, and will fire without the magazine. Also has a 'drop safety'.

Takedown is quite quick and easy. Maintenance is a no-braner for anybody accustomed to doing that on most any gun.

The lil thing is 100% reliable from round #1 AND it shoots to point of aim. Accuracy was quite good and it is far more comfortable to shoot than I imagined it was going to be. Trigger is quite good-surprised me.

I shot 230 FMJ factory loads, 230 FMJ reloads of mine and 200 JHP reloads of mine. The latter load is a little more comfortable and the most accurate of the lot.

So far, I'm tickled pink with it. I'll wring it out some more when (and IF) the temperature EVER gets below triple digits here!

Good to hear. I would have joined you in the ownership club today if I had the money. I hadn't paid any attention to the XDS since I never had any issues with the very slim double column XD design. I didn't realize the gun was so small until someone handed one to me today. I'll be heading back after payday to see if they still have one.

Thanks for the review.

I'm trying to find info on if these guns will have a problem firing cast bullets. I know Glocks aren't recommended to use cast bullets. Didn't know about the XDS. I email Springfield and haven't received an answer. Thought maybe it would say something in the owners manual.

Are they eventually going to make them in 9mm, does anyone know?

I've heard rumors they are planning on it, and it would make sense. However, I haven't seen anything from Springfield officially stating it.

They are definitely coming in 9mm and 40 cal ...The back of the paddle holster supplied with the XDS states it will fit the 9mm and 40 cal XDS as well..of course "when" is anybody's guess...this is however, direct from springfield..

hi ya, i have shot in excess of 10,000 cast 9mm in my xd9-tactical. no worries whatsoever.
the thing with Glock is the cold forged barrel. xd's are not made like that. shoot cast bullets as long as you like. mine are homemade, so dont let anyone tell you that they have to hardcast or some such.
keep you powder dry,
max

7+1 in a 9mm makes it more of a BUG for me.
If I'm going to carry a 9mm, I want a higher cap.

That's the price you pay for single stack thinness: capacity.

After many years I'm gravitating more and more to revolvers and single stack semiautos. They simply feel better in my hand.

There's nothing wrong with either choice. Every handgun is a compromise.

I have had an xd45, and xd40 service and currently an XD40sc.

If they come out with a single stack slim 9mm I will be standing in line.

You Can get 7 round mags for the 45 XDS from Springfield so I would imagine higher capacity mags will be available for 9's and 40's to when they come out. Shot mine at the range today , recoil is no problem at all 230 WWB FMJ, 230 WWB JHP, PDX1's and Hornady Critical Defense no malfunctions of any kind. I really like this gun.

I looked over one few weeks ago before stock sold out before overnight. Cute little gun I had the money but used funds to join 'Team Glock' instead. I'm glad you like your little cannone.

I was looking at the XDS yesterday at Bass Pro Shops, and the salesperson there said they are coming out with a 7 round mag for the XDS soon. So take that for whatever its worth.

Picked up a XDs yesterday to compliment my XD-45 Service, it's a perfect back-up gun or for light carry. Can't wait to get it to the range this weekend!

Cheers! M2

It's funny - Springfield makes a brand new small frame for .45 comparable in size to LC9m CM9 and Slim 709 but in .45 acp and 2/3 of posters will wait for a 9mm version. Strange. I only own 2 handguns - a Beretta Neos and a Ruger P345 (my first purchase). I love both but am best with the Ruger. I've been looking for a smaller .45 but didn't like the PT145 or CM45, the only ones close. Now the XDs comes out and everyone else wants it in 9mm. Wow.
