So Fellas,
I'm thinkin', move to the country, nice spacious house with a spare bedroom on the back of house (maybe 2nd floor) , 200 yd range in the backyard. Removable bay window in the spare bedroom looking out onto the range. Use the back bedroom window to shoot from. Maybe the room doubles as a reloading room. Wake up, have my morning coffee, work up a load, swing the window open and begin firing....Range trip without so much as removing my pajamas. Ahhhh, heaven.....Surprisingly my wife is not on board with this....

Not that this would ever happen, but just saying maybe, if, just in case I ever did it, any ideas..? or what problems can you foresee happening with this scenario...other than the obvious, burning down the house....

I think I'm kidding about this.....

Mods: Can you move this to the Range forum. I meant to post it there..thanks

.

Friend lived in the country in CO years ago. Saw a coyote running towards where his horses were. Opens his sliding glass door, but did not stick the muzzle out of the opening. Upon firing he shattered the sliding glass doors from the muzzle blast, knocked collector plates and pictures off the walls shattering that glass, and in short made his wife VERY angry. To top it off, he missed the coyote.

Just build you a nice covered bench a little bit away from the house- your marriage will last longer........ :D

I can see some real noise issues with anything more than a rimfire, and it's not difficult to set up a simple covered area, even with noise baffles, to shoot from outside. There's also the lead exposure problem, the stink and the general grime and dust associated with firing weapons.

That said, I shot six squirrels in a row from my bed one time.

Yeah the whole idea of brass, fumes, and all that stuff in my house - Uhhhh NO. I like the other idea - build a covered deck and shoot from that. ;)

And remember - if Momma ain't happy - ain't NOBODY happy...:p

Yes, I think your right on the noise and such. It would probably take a top notch ventilation system too.

Thats hilarious about the squirrels but I think I'm afraid to ask about the details.

Build a covered deck extending 20 feet off the room, build shooting table on deck, enjoy
Good idea. I'm just dreaming right now, but one of these days.....

And Racinfan, you're sho' nuff right about momma. Sounds like you been married once or thrice:)

I believe some areas have restrictions on firing a gun within x feet of a house.

I vow my next home will have a short handgun range at a minimum with a bullet trap. It has already eliminated a parcel I already own.
