I want to present a a 1911 to my mom's fiance (my dad has passed). He has lived in DC and Europe over the past 30 years so effectively he has been gun free. He served as a officer in Rangers during the early to mid 70's and I wanted to present him with a pistol that would most closely resemble the one he carried. I wanted it to be new and I was going to engrave it.

Anyone have any thoughts on a way to accomplish my mission above and not break the bank? I open to suggestions and I think he will appreciate it.

Springfield mil spec $500 or RIA mil spec $425. For just fun shooting I would go for the RIA, for wall hanging Springfield, both work well with fmj so range shooting both should good, Springfield just looks better. As far as engraving see what your local gunsmiths charge.

Thanks guys! I would suspect that it would be a wall hanger and might get shot once or twice. I thought about the Colt but never considered the AO. Good Call!

I would go with the Springfield mil spec. That gun has a pretty god reputation for out of the box reliability.
