I have a friend living in Maine looking for a good range to go to occasionally. He's interested in plinking at paper target and possibly more reactive targets too. Does anyone have suggestions?

He lives in the Old Port area.

I belong to a gun club called the Great Farm Rifle Club. We have a nice outdoor range, but no indoor range.
Membership is only $25 per year.
It's not exactly handy to the Portand area, though. It's in Jackson, which is about 2 hours from Portland.

savoo, I already looked on the NRA website.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of "this one is superb", "avoid so-and-so", and so forth.

Thanks, though.

gggman, 2 hours away isn't too far, although it would be a trip it would be offset by the inexpensiveness of it.

Hello -- I belong to the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club, 20 minutes north of the Old Port on route 100. There is a 200 yd rifle range, a 100 yard rifle range, a falling plates pistol range, a skeet/trap range ( don't know the difference, I don't speak shotgun). There are also two short range pistol ranges as well. Cost is fair. Hope this helps.

Hmm. Membership costs/can you go there without a membership for a fee?

Sounds better than a two hour drive. Is there an RO there at certain times, is there a members only time, etc?

Thanks.

I too would reccommed Falmouth R&G. It is a prety much members only club but there are times when some ranges are opened to the public I believe. You get quite a bit of bang for your buck. Good facility and a good bunch of folks there. Take a look... www.FRandG.org
There's also Scarborough Fish & Game out past the Mall area. Nice place too. I think the used to have a main focus of trap/skeet but that mey have changed now. Windham R&G is asmall club as is Royal River. Have shot at the later - pretty basic 50yd & 100yd. I don't know of any public ranges since the old range in Saco closed years ago.

Hampden rifle&pistol range

If your ever up Bangor way check out the Hampden R&P range. We've got a new 600yd. range. savoo

Third Rail, there is also a range in Durham, near Freeport-Brunswick. That is the club my brother belongs to. I have shot there, it's pretty nice. It is outdoor only, though. I believe the official name is the Durham Rod and Gun Club. I'll ask my brother when I speak to him, or maybe his sorry butt will see this and post a reply.
