Rant: Ruger Mini-14 Magazines

WHY doesn't Ruger have 10-round mags for the Mini-14s?

Because 10 rounds is nearing the dishonest man threshold? Having 5 round magazines puts us only at 45% dishonesty whereas 10 rounders put us at 90% dishonesty? Now that Bill Ruger Sr has..um....passed away, how hard is it for them to make a mostly-honest 10-round mag??

And no, I don't want to mess around with after market magazines! I don't even want your dishonest 20 and 30 round mags and folding stock! All I want is a 10 round magazine!

Ruger used to make a 10 round factory mag. They are somewhat of a collector item. They fetch about as much as a factory 20.

I dont know why they have chosen not to produce them, but at least one person on TFL mailed (email or written letter, I dont remember) Ruger to complain about it and they were sent two 5 rounders and a letter containing lots of blah blah blah as an apology/explaination.

why bother. they cant really compete with an AR so they wont bother making the 10 rounders. i guess they dont figure youll pop more than 5 coyotes at a time with there ranch rifle.

Ruger's a publicly traded company. If you want 10-rounders, all you have to do is buy up a controlling stake in the company and have 'em build you whatever you want

Just like you and a lot of the folks on this forum, I'm pretty unhappy about Ruger's stance that they're only SPORTING arms makers. They have made subguns for gubmint use, but we peons can't get COMPLETELY LEGAL 10-round magazines or CCW-friendly handguns from them.

What say we organize a group buy of Ruger stock and take over the company? Rename it THR Industries

I never got a chance to listen to Bill Ruger Jr. on Gun Talk a few months ago. Nobody that I talked to knew if anyone asked Bill Ruger Jr why they don't make 10rd mags for the Mini 14.

He was apparently taking calls on Ruger products and what customers would want to see Ruger make.

Anyone know?

Currently there are some excellent 10 rounders for the Mini-14 available made by the same folks that make the 5 rounders for Ruger.

They have exactly the same kind of construction as the 5 rounders, except minus the Ruger Eagle on the floorplate.

My dealer carries them. I don't have a clue what that company is. 25 bucks. I have 2. They work good.

The excellent new 10rnd mags are made by Promag. They've worked great in my Mini-14. On the floorplate you can see an area where it looks like you could stamp it w/the ruger emblem. If you take the factory 5 round mag apart and sanded down the stop it will hold 7 rounds.

But i don't know if this is true. I have not tryed it

If you cut down the barrel, it is a 2-3 MOA gun. It goes bang every time.

Cutting the bbl down to 16"? Stiffer barrel, less noodle and probably the reason why it doesn't squirt bullets so much when the bbl gets hot. I wonder if anybody whispered this to Ruger yet?

BTW, Green Mountain makes the barrels for the Mini14.
