I'd love to hunt deer with my fancy Mossberg 500 with rifled slug barrel, but I find myself using an ancient Ithaca M-66 breakopen instead because the damned forend rattles. I've tried some strategically located duct tape, but so far can't silence the damned thing. Any ideas, other than trying to master the art of making it sound like antlers instead of steel?

Question is it a forend loose on the tube or is the forend hitting the magazine tube?
If it is the second you can replace the plastic ring(s)? in the forend tube that ride against he magazine tube.
I can not duplicate that noise on my shotgun because my is nearly new.

The rattle of the Mossberg 500 is a well documented sound and you will be hard pressed to get rid of it. There is a certain looseness in the design that allows the 500 to keep operating even when it's very dirty. Pull it out of thick mud, it probably will still work, if not rise it off with a garden hose and keep going. However the famous rattle is a consequence of this design.
