RCBS Lock-out Die

Definitely recommended. Mine has saved me grief several times.

A plunger in the center of the die hits the top of the powder. If there is too little distance or too much, the die locks up and stops progress until you have had a chance to inspect.

If I am not mistaken it will only detect a double charge or no charge at all. I find that it is very helpful and do recommend it. The powder check die from rcbs also works good.

This is the part I don't get. How does it lock up the press? Does it physically 'grab' the round some how?

It stops you from completing the upstroke. It doesn't really lock up the press. You can lower the shell plate. It is a very definite feeling.

I recommend it. It works quite well. You need to adjust the plunger according to your load. It is more sensitive than no charge or double charge.
