Just reloaded my first 20 rounds of .308 softpoint (150 grain Winchester bullets). Cases were all carefully trimmed and I'm crimping separately with a Lee collet crimper, but the location of the canelure (sp?)to case mouth is varying more than I'd like. OAL is consistent, though. I suspect RCBS die has a flat-ish seating stem rather than bearing on the ogive and due to the soft points, manufacturing, etc. that I'm getting variation? I'd pull out the die to look at the stem but figure asking is easier since folks here like to share. :p

P.S. I load lots of pistol rounds, not so much with rifle rounds.

I would think if there is a problem it would not be the stem, I would think it would be the plug. I have an assortment of seating plugs for C&H, Herter and RCBS; when it comes to consistency in overall length I have to decide if it is about consistent overall length or crimping at the canelure (sp), it could be difficult to obtain both.
