I was in my favorite gun store the other day. Plenty of ammo on the shelves (except for .380) and a nice selection of new guns even though it had been a few days since their last truck.

They also had more "late model" used guns than I have ever seen there. One of the guys that works there told me people are starting to sell back the guns they bought during the Obama panic-buying frenzy and that most of the guns in the case either have never been fired or fired only once or twice.

Anyone else seeing this happen?

Me, I am excited; I can shop for bargains!

Saw the same thing at my gun store last Friday - last few months, there was never any handgun ammo, and now they had plenty of 9mm and .45acp. I'm hoping this means there will be a glut of cheap ammo...

Or it may be that most people here aren't as stupid as I am and decided they didn't want to leave a thumbprint and all their information just to buy ammo. And if you're not aware of the state of things in CA...yes, they are that bad.

That's expected to happen as people who bought 3 or 5 or 7 guns realize that they only want to keep one or two. When it will get in full swing is anybodies guess, but about now is when you'd expect them to start trickling in.

You can thank the NRA for this. Every time a Democrat comes into office they start crying wolf. It is really quite pathetic if not immoral. The NRA is about self serving greed and right wing propaganda, not second amendment protection.

Troll!

You can thank the NRA for the fact yo can still buy guns at ammo at all.

No crying wolf at all, calls for more gun controls have happened in this administration already (as they did under Bush) but they've gone nowhere (as they did under Bush) because of the NRA and other gun rights groups.

The NRA is not to blame for the Obama panic. There was and is still real cause for concern. As for the NRA, they have more than more good for our cause than any one person I can think of.

I think that some may have gone overboard during the initial "panic days" and bought more guns than they could actually afford.

Now...if one was able to afford it...buying an extra gun and more ammo made sense. Inflation is bound to happen. Buying ammo at today's prices make more sense than buying it at tomorrow's prices. (I'm comparing today's prices with prices down the road...say 5 years from now. I think that it is safe to say that the prices will go only one direction.......up.)

Back to the OP....... yes.. I am seeing ammo back in the shelves at Wally World. Lots of .223 and 12 gauge. Lots of .40 cal as well. I predict that in the next 6 months...we will see a lot more.

Don't be lulled into complacency. Gun control is still very much on Obama's agenda, just a bit further in the future. When it comes up, you will see the second wave of buying and stockpiling.

Totally agree. I'm buying anything that I think will get banned and that I can afford. So far in 2009: Bushmaster M4, DPMS Panther Carbine, MSAR STG-556, Gemtech Outback 2, .22 suppressor, YHM Cobra 2, .45 suppressor and for X-mas I'm looking at an SCAR-L.

For 2010 I want to start off with an M1 and a full auto Mac 10.....

Cheaper than Dirt is my main store and I've not seen any sell backs or increased # of used guns. The new stuff keeps flying off the shelves....

Really? I bought a few guns during the same time period and I didn't hear the NRA tell me to buy them. The decision to buy guns was mine and not based on what the NRA had to say.

Personally, I believe those people who are now selling recently purchased guns are thinking a little short sided.

Hm. Obama and the leaders of the congressional Democrats want a new "assault weapons" ban. They want to sue gun manufacturers into bankruptcy. They want to only allow a certain number of guns to be purchased per month. They want so-called "common sense" "gun safety" gun laws, which are designed to prevent law-abiding citizens from purchasing guns and ammunition.

I don't blame anyone for worrying that an Obama administration and a congress controlled by liberal Democrats will result in more gun control. I would blame the worsening economy -- especially staggering job losses in this country, even after the so-called "stimulus" bill was passed -- for the decrease in gun purchases. When you don't have a job and have to pay a mortgage, you're going to stop buying guns and ammo, and possibly sell the used guns you have.

No big supply of "new" used guns around here yet. I am sure there will be some sell off happening.

Yeah!!! How dare the NRA use a politicians speeches and voting record against them. We should believe what a politician, especially a Democrat, says today not what he's done and said for the last several years.

WHOA, dude, bad mouthin the NRA is right outright blasphemy! you're talking about an organization older than the statue of liberty or electricity that not only protects 2A rights, but fights to prevent convicted MURDERERS from getting paroled.

and YES Barry is most definately anti-gun and is planning on GREATLY deteriorating YOUR rights. buy now or cry later, it's not rocket science.

Four posts and we are completely off topic, The firearms are coming back, and at greatly reduced prices, walking the floor of the GS's all the dealers are saying the same thing, "I can buy all the used pieces I want," turning down good deals for better ones, and they are having a tough time selling much. The guys walking in selling used firearms are bringing everything from family heirlooms to the WASR AK's they payed way too much for, and finding out the hard way the demand isn't there anymore. Every show it seems I talk to another fellow that has just been laid off and is forced to sell, the used market is becoming saturated and with fewer buyers available, prices fall. It is a good time to shop for bargains.

+1. This is supposed to be a gun forum, not a political forum. Plenty of places out there exist to vent your political spleen, and this isn't one of them.

I would like to be able to report that I've seen this spectacle in my neck of the woods, but I can't. The shelves at the local WallyWorld continue to be pretty much bare of ammo, and I don't seen an overwhelming number of guns of any stripe -- new or used or LNIB -- flooding the gun shops. Wish I did, but I don't.

they didn't want to leave a thumbprint and all their information just to buy ammo.

Is it legal for you to buy your ammo on-line or in person in a neighboring state? Can you legally haul it back into The Republic of Kalifonia? If so, maybe it would be wothwhile for anyone traveling out-of-state to haul a trunkful back.

Some ARs and Ruger Mini-14s are starting to show up in pawnshops around here. A few days ago i met a guy coming out of a pawnshop with his new NIB Colt AR-15. The pawnshop had offered him $500 for it. Bought that gun for $650.

AB 962 doesn't go into effect until February 2011 in California.

And people please stop saying go into the next state and just buy it there. The ammo shortage is still bad here in Vegas and this type of thing will only make it worse for us.

oddly enough, the speculation in the local gunstore this week was that the next few months would see a new flurry of AR buying as folks who didn't have the money to buy during the panic last year are getting a 2nd chance. given the last 2 pages of AR threads in rifle country, my bet is that this will be the prevailing trend.

i personally haven't decided whether i'm buying now or not. or if i do, whether i should buy guns or ammo or mags or what. i'm very tempted to buy an aug clone and some 6920s at these prices. i don't think they'll ever be cheaper in nominal or real dollars. (especially if you consider what's happened to our currency in the past year) but that's not what i want.
