Last night the wife and I went to Border's books...she of course got all her decorating books, while I went to the gun section...I picked up Ayoob's Combat handgunning book...I read most of it while there....good book, fun and informative.....a section at the end had info on CCW in the different states. That's when it hit me..you Vermont guys got it made...a truly free state..and surprise,surprise....almost NO crime...go figure...I'm no brain surgeon, but if you just look at the stats..more guns and less laws about carrying, does mean less crime..maybe I'm over simplifing here(I know economics has alot to do with it)but if I ever do move to another state,it will be vermont..

I recently got that book for my birthday. Lots of good info in there. Some day I'd like to sign up for one of Ayoobs courses, if I can ever afford it. He's only about four hours drive from where I live.

Y'know, I must say that I was actually impressed with that book. Lotta good stuff in there and very little one-true-technique-itis. Also, a very heavy emphasis on software rather than just being a 200-page advert for guns, ammo, and holsters.

That's one way to look at it...the other might be that since it is a state of hard working, ethical people who seem to live by a God fearing moral code, there is no need to restrict weapons...I spent a lot of time in Vermont years back and I never felt that the peope were well behaved because they feared the other person was packing....and I doubt most were....

I'm not sure which title of Ayoob's you're referring to, specifically, but while I find his stuff interesting and sometimes informative, my big complaint is that he never takes time to update them! A new edition every ten years or so would be nice! In one of his books he was recommending the Colt 1911 and was describing and depicting a model 70 and the guy holding the gun had mutton-chop sideburns and flare trousers! For the money he makes on them, you'd think he would have enough pride to keep them up to date. (Rant mode off) :)

What is the exact title of the book? Better yet, can you link to it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble or something?

Thanks.

I THINK is was Combat handgunning 4th edition I'm pretty sure it said 2004 on it(it had a line of auto's on the cover(mostly white cover)sorry I can't be more help...

The book in question is a paperback titled, "The Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery, 5th edition." Ayoob is the author of this edition.

Edition 4 was written by Chuck Taylor and is little more than a reprint of his articles.

Edition 3 was written by Chuck Karwan. Not bad at all.

Edition 2 was also written by Chuck Karwin.

Edition 1 was written by Jack Lewis.

You should be able to find any/all of them at nearly any gunshow.

I"ve known Mass ever since he was

"melting Micros" with a torch. :) He's come a long ways since those days, and he's gotten pretty good at what he does.

I lend this book out to buddies of mine that might need a few pointers. He goes over different styles/techniques, so readers can choose whichever works best for them, plus there's a decent overview of a good selection of handguns. Pretty helpful, from all accounts.

Have you Massaged Aboob today? :D

The 4th Edition and 5th Edition each present a lot of different information. I think both of them put together are a great resource. Apart, I'd have to give preference to the 5th Edition.
