I have seen a lot of very nice FAL's under $1000, usualy in the $750 range.
I really wish people would stop spreading the internet rumor that .308 is harmful in a 7.62 gun.
If the headspace is in SAMMI spec it will shoot .308 the same as 7.62x51.
Keep the bullet to what the gun was designed for and it is a non issue, 150 grns.
Most shoot 168 grn just fine.
The overpressure is just a myth that has been the net since Al Gore invented it.
There are instances where the case will get torn off, generally it is from using steel cased ammo and then shooting brass cased without scrubbing the lacquer from the chamber.
FWIW the military now uses the same measurements as SAMMI, the Strain gauge to obtain pressures.
Recent 7.62 NATO measured at 60,150 psi max.
It's not enough to worry about.

They heard it from their sisters boyfriend who heard it from the guy at the gun show who saw it on the net.
