Compact .308, SBR or bullpup?

The FN FS2k uses it and has proven reliable enough (which somehow they managed to make double the size of the RFB with the handling characteristics of a 4x4 post).

Really? I've run an F2000 and I found it to be very natural feeling. The only gripe I have is the safety - easy enough to reach but set up backwards if you ask me.

But, it is true, the RFB is silly small. I have no idea how the wizards at Kel-tec did that.

.308 is still going to be decent in a 16" inch barrel, but I just think you lose too much for what you gain. If you want a short barrel I think it makes more sense to go with a smaller cartridge to save cost and recoil

I guess that depends on what you're doing with it. My AR-10 Carbine is a multi-purpose rifle, and that includes big game. With the ballistics my handloads turn out, it's still a perfectly capable 400 yard big game rifle. An AK is not. Recoil also is no worse with the rifle being a couple pounds heavier than an AK and an action and configuration that is vastly superior for recoil management. It's also far more accurate. Yet, being relatively short, it's pretty manueverable in tight confines, such as the cab of a truck when going after predators and the like.

While the .308 may fall short of it's potential in a carbine length barrel, no intermediate cartridge can match it. At 2,200-2,300 ft/lbs at the muzzle, it still packs quite a wallop from a short 16" rifle.

I know it looks like a silly fish, but it doesn't feel like one. Have you run one through CQB drills?
Nope, mostly just played with one. Compared to my M17S it was just too bulky (though it probably weighed less). The P90, OTOH, I like...a lot (will be getting one to SBR at some point in time). Same for the RFB (but I want the mid-length bbl and hopefully something like a 7mm-08Rem.).
