Are there any good reasons to own both? Seems they fill the same size role in terms of "carry guns" and should be about the same fun to shoot on a range. Seem to overlap pretty heavily, so besides the fact they're both dandy firearms is there a reason to own both?

You want to?

I mean, I own several pairs of guns that are the exact same make/model/caliber and you can't get more overlap than that. I have even more that are similar (sometimes to the point where they can share a holster). I have my reasons, and someone else may have equally valid reasons for not owning multiple guns that fill the same niche. To quote Shakespeare, "...there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."

The point of the Shield is its width. If you're not benefiting from the slimness of a single stack handgun, it seems like a waste to carry one and give up the potential of a 19 round reload with the G26 and 11+ round carry load.

Even if the slim Shield is a better everyday carry gun, I still like the potential that guns like the G26, P99c and P30SK have as replacements for full size pistols.

I usually gravitate away from single stack/ultra slim 9mms. I'm not big on iwb carry, so the only single stacks I keep in any kind of rotation are the Beretta Pico in my pocket or the 1911 owb on my hip or shoulder holstered.

I used to have a 26, but I found that since I owb carry 99% of the time, the 19 is a better fit for my needs.

I see the Shield as a fine addition for those looking for a slim 9mm where iwb concealment is of high priority. I could certainly see the Shield pulling duty when discretion is key and a 26 bringing up the rear when it can be concealed.

For me, a small .380 works for an "invisible gun". I can dress around a 19 most of the time. Thus, I don't have much demand for either the 26 or the Shield.

Long before my shield come along my 26 hit the road. The 26 was just too porky and funky sized for me.

On the other hand I carry a G26 never saw the need for a Shield. If everyone liked the same thing we would all carry the same gun and everyone else would be out of business.

I have a PPS and several others. My carry choices are always "The PPS and......". There are times when you simply wouldn't be carrying if you didn't have the small, slim, low-cap option. Keep the Shield for those times and carry the larger option the rest. To me, girth is as important as weight.

Good reasons to own both - sure. When you want better concealment but don't want to wear an oversize shirt the thinner gun hides better. When you want more capacity and don't mind the oversize shirt, the thicker gun conceals well enough.

At least I find it so between my 26 and XDS.

If you get a chance to shoot G-26 and 9mm Shield rentals like I did, you might go for the Walther PPS M2 like I did!

Me too, plus the Shield's trigger is not my preference.

I had a Glock 26, Shield, and an XDS. when I needed to trade something to get a 1911 I realized that these three pretty much fill the same slot. I liked them all but the XDS went. In my case money was the only reason not to have several small 9mm poly guns. There is need and then there is desire. I need one gun. I like to practice diversity and have several.

The Glock 26 has never felt comfortable in my hand; just the wrong proportions in all the wrong places. I would give up the extra rounds of the Glock in exchange for a single stack, like the Shield, that fits me a lot better and is more comfortable to shoot.

I have tried both and found them lacking to my needs. A CZ 75 compact, officers model 1911, or a J frame with the occasional need for a 380 back up or summer carry fill all my carry needs.
