Looking for a high quality, low priced complete M4 upper with a chrome lined chamber and bore. I already know about model 1 sales. I'm interested in an A3 upper, with detachable carry handle, and I want it to be in preban/noban config, with A2 flash hider and bayo lug. Any suggestions? Links would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance.

CMMG has very nice uppers. Pricier than Model 1 and co., but their uppers have all the hard to finds specs--1:7 twist, chrome lining, 4150 steel, etc.

Twist rates determine the usable range of bullet weights. If you plan on using heavier bullets, you want a faster twist, lighter bullets, a slower twist.

The larger the 2nd number, the slower the twist. 1 in 9 is generally considered the most versitile (45-65 grains) and the faster 1 in 7 or 1 in 8 twists more for heavy high-power competition bullets (69 grains and up).

That off the top of my head so those figures might be a little off.

Black Snowman is right about the advantages of different twist rates. A 1:9 is the most versatile, but I think a 1:7 is better for an M4 upper. You're not likely to use any light varmit loads out of an M4gery, but you may want to use it for HD (where you'll generally want heavier bullets with better terminal performance). A 1:7 will handle the standard 55 grain stuff with no problems (XM193 and similar) while giving you the option the use heavier loads (like 75 or 77 grain loads from Black Hills and Hornady).

The decision really depends on what you want and where your priorities are at; I went with the CMMG upper for my post-AWB celebration build for no other reason than I wanted it (and knew exactly what I wanted)! YMMV...just decide if the CMMG extras are worth $125 over the Model1 upper.

As for the color question, my Mega lower (supposedly same as Stag) mathces my CMMG upper perfectly.

what "extras" do the CMMG uppers offer that the model 1 uppers don't? I don't mind paying a little extra for quality. How much was the shipping on the CMMG upper?

The 1:7 twist and the 4150 steel are the really hard-to-find features. Also, CMMG uppers have the T markings on the rails and M4-cut feedramps (suposedly better for feeding non-standard rounds). I've heard a lot of other people complain about Model 1's service and parts whereas I've heard only positive reviews of CMMG. My CMMG upper has been flawless in the first 200 rounds (mostly Wolf). Shipping was 10 bucks for my upper from CMMG. In the end, from CMMG you know you're getting quality; from Model 1, you're probably getting good stuff (but never quite know). For an M4 upper, I think the extra money is worth it.

ADCO Firearms has good prices on RRA uppers (M4 with no handle, chrome lining, 1:9 for $480 ish) and excellent service. You can also go Bushmaster for a little more; I think uppers list for $530 or so from Bushy.

They are little numbers machined into the rail to identify the different positions; IMHO they really don't matter, but they look cool!

The LMT uppers are very nice. They are completely milspec and in use by the government and contractors. They have the F marked taller front sights that some other companies don't use, 1:7 twist, white T markings on the flat-top, chrome lined barrel with M4 cuts in the receiver.

Around $480 for a LMT upper without handguards, bolt group or carry handle. So it is pricey but not as expensive as Colt, still comparable quality to Colt however.

I got my 14.5" LMT with permanent phantom from Adco. Great company to do business with.

Another vote for an LMT upper from Adco. That's what I'll be getting for my carbine build. Chrome bore and chamber, M4 feed ramps, T numbered upper, 1/7 twist. Great upper.

Heard good things abut the CMMG also though.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with Model 1 Sales, but since I already knew about them, I didn't want a lot of people suggesting them, I'm trying to shop around before I decide what I want.

Shot my DPMS AP4 (M4) upper today for the 1st time, worked perfectly. It is the 1-9 twist. Looks great, worked great, accurate to boot.

I would not hesitate to buy another, and just might....

People have been saying LMT M4 uppers are pretty good. Here another link that sells them.

I personally would buy one of these for an M4 setup, but now that different companies are coming up with piston uppers I'm going to wait and see. I'm just tired of using dental tools to clean the thing.

I got my new GG&G modular free floating rail today, got a picture of it on my LMT upper.

I only wish Feinstein could see it, it would make her soil her depends.
