UPDATE #2

One more update for this matter. In speaking to my local shop guy earlier today, he mentioned that they had finally gotten a purchase slip in, and it took 6 weeks. And those were the ones put in for processing well before the holidays. My personal stake (the aforementioned 686) is now at just over 2 weeks. So as far as I know, it's more than likely that I (and anyone else in this county buying a handgun) will have to wait up to 2 months, just to be allowed to pick up a gun from the store that I have already paid for.

But we sent them a message in the last election. And we're going to send them another message in the next election. So none of what you say could be true. You must be making it up.

glad I live in Ohio

8 counties vote Democrat. THe other 80 know better. I just wish the other 80 had more people. Seriously, the recent lifting of the Columbus/Toledo bans (should they hold without lawsuits and such screwing it up) show that Ohio is still a state that can make decisions in favor of the people. I could go, right now (okay, maybe when they open at 9) and purchase a Walther I've been thinking about. No hassle, no hoops, no one determining whether I'm competent or not. Just the ATF form. I don't think I'll ever live in NY state and I feel sorry for you guys who do. It's a case where a city's issues overflow into the rest of the state and ruin it for everyone. Keep voting the right way, and hopeflly things will change for the better.

"Here in Suffolk County we have a "Target & Hunting" permit. You can carry to & from the range but unloaded. I got my permit in the city before moving to Suffolk 18 yrs. ago & had no problem getting it. Don't get me wrong they do suck in NYC & will never go back, & now with Spitzser(?) & Cuomo in Albany I'm hoping to go to Pa."

Not true. Loaded pistols can be carried but must be concealed.
See Suffolk County pistol handbook info.

(Note) For the
purpose of target shooting and hunting, the Police Commissioner has authorized licensees to meet for
the purpose of car pooling and to stop for non-alcoholic refreshments on the way to and from their
shooting destination. You are authorized to do this only during the period upon leaving your residence
and arriving at your shooting destination or during the return trip.

Also:

2. May I carry my gun loaded on my person when I go to the range?
Yes, but it must be carried concealed and you must comply with the restrictions that apply to a class f-
1 Sportsman license

Let me guess….judges are appointed rather than elected in NYS. If they are elected then try to get this one voted out. I imagine it will be an uphill climb because the NY population is so used to be led by the nose they can’t see the forest through the trees.

Perpster:
CCW is NOT the only handgun license in NYS

I think what was meant by that was more along the lines that the license issued to you is technically a CCW permit until they add the restrictions. At least that was the way it was explained to me during the safety course. And no shooter, they're elected. It's just the demographic's that make judges like this get elected

Hex, that really grinds me.

Wouldn't it be great to have solidarity among all local gun stores and start charging the county a "stocking/storage" fee of the firearms they can't move out of inventory because of Judge Judy. Possibly have them eventually sue for infringing on local business practice and intrastate commerce? A biiiiigggg stretch but damn how do you get these jerks to listen NOW? You have to wait until the next election....

Looking To Get A Ulster CCW License

I've never looked into getting a CCW license until now, but the way this economy is going, I'm fearful not only for my safety (with all the random shootings in the news and other shooting due to lost jobs or whatever), but for my family as well. If things get worse in the economy, and they could get far worse, I think there's going to be some folks in Ulster County (and elsewhere) who are going to get desperate for money/food, etc. And I don't want to be unprepared. Does anyone else feel this way?

So I'd like to do this, but after reading some of the comments here I'm not sure what I would even say to "the judge" when I get asked whatever questions she will ask. I assume I'll get asked why do you feel you need to carry a concealed gun or something to that effect. I don't want her to think I'm some kind of conspiracy nut or something. Any thoughts? Feel free to contact me offline..

"... shall not be infringed." is absolutely meaningless to left wing neo-liberals.

They laugh mockingly at our Constitution as they slowly but systemactically destroy it.

I feel your pain - this is the way Albany County has been for at least the past several years. I had to appear in court to get my license at all (which was limited to hunting and target shooting), and again to get the purchase ticket for my Ruger 22/45. The second time was really excessive, seeing as how I had just gotten the permit weeks earlier. What could possibly have changed in that time that a background check wouldn't pick up? Was the public's interest really served in making me come back to the court house yet again, in the pouring rain, to talk for five minutes about why I'd like to purchase a handgun? On the upside, my purchase ticket was approved relatively quickly - just a couple of weeks, if I recall.

Ulster county seems better now.

I needed a duplicate, as my license is 20 years old and in 3 pieces. So I mentioned this at work, and 4 of my employees- the four in the office at the moment, all asked me to pick up a pistol permit application.

At the PPB, the one clerk got $10 for taking a new photo, $7 for the application- filled out in duplicate, total: 3 notarized forms and $5 each for 4 Pistol application “packets”.

The application has a fingerprint fee of over $100.

She also told me that normally they processed 15 new applications per month; last month they did 90.

In the first 11 days of March, its up to 30.

She said people are scared.

I said maybe they are starting to take responsibility. For themselves. For getting out of Debt. For everything.

Nah... she says they are just scared.

Like she is.
