looking for a recipe that I can't find. Due to a lack of primers, I was able to get a couple bricks of Rio Primers 209.

I was also able to find some Ramshot Powder which will cover some shotgun and some cowboy loads for handgun.

My available components currently are:
Rio 209 primers
Ramshot Competition powder
Estate hulls
Federal 12S3 wads / Claybuster equivilent

I can actually find data for the ramshot powder, but none of my other components match.

According to some forums and such, the estate hulls are the same as the federal gold. So that takes care of the hulls. But nothing on the rio primers. It doesn't bother me that they are euro and slightly larger. The hulls being reloaded would only be reloaded with these primers. But some sites say the Rio 209 can be equally exchanged with a Win Primer. Some say equal to a Federal 209. Well..... those 2 are sort of on the ends of the list. Federal 209 being about the hottest. Bottom line is; I can't find any load data and was wondering if anyone knew of any.

I am comfortable using the Ramshot Powder load data, and using the federal hull and primer data with it as a substitute. I never load towards the high end anyway. But it would be nice if there were any recipes specifically for the Rio 209 primers.
Thanks
Mike

I don't know of any Rio specific data for their primers AND Ramshot powder. I think you're on the right path to use them in midrange 1 1/8 oz loads with a safety margin.

I have loaded the Estate hull, and they definitely are NOT identical to the Federal Gold Medal. Unless your powder is particularly bulky, it won't crimp well with the 12S3. I used the 12S0 or WAA12SL equivalents for 1 1/8 oz loads in this hull. I believe it is a Rio or Cheddite made hull. You could make the 12S3 work with an overshot card.

Thanks for the info. I almost always prefer to roll crimp, so I use over shot cards anyway. So that's not a problem.
Thanks

Just my opinion but the primer difference won’t be an issue on a mid-range shell.

If you were pushing boundaries, I would say no.

I found this on the BPI site:

I also was lucky enough to get some of those Rio primers. I have read they are slightly larger than the others, so the pocket may be unusable for regular 209's after you use them. However, I was able to find some threads on the Trapshooters forum concerning comparisons. If you look about 1/2 way down this (2009) thread, one of the commenters suggests they are actually hotter than Federal 209A's, but I have not found that to be the case.

I had a thread that I cannot find now which stated the 'new' Rio 209's are much milder than the old ones. Alliant's online guide has some loads for Rio 209's you might want to look at. https://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx

I suggest you be very careful in your loads, shoot with a chrony and watch the pressures

Yea, I've read almost all those threads. Including those of people saying it's hotter than a Federal 209a. Most are simply passing on information they read, without knowing what they are talking about. Hotter than a Federal 209? Yea.... I could agree with that. Hotter than a Federal 209A, I doubt very much. Not from what I've read from the various manufacturers.

Most of what I've seen, and do believe from the manufacturers, is that most 209 primers are close enough to be interchangeable without any major difference. But when you see data for a Federal 209, that is definitely different than a 209A. I'm not too worried about the differences. I was just hoping for any recipes if available.,

I wrote to hodgdon about various loads and the rio g-1000 209 primers. They said to use the federal primer load data and all will be fine. So that’s good.
