Recoil Buffer for the AK47?

No AK expert, so help me out,

Isn't there a buffer that is a full auto part?, which functions as some kind of rate reducer? I remember reading about something like that once. Seems to me it would be a good idea to make sure you don't have one of those in your gun!

I believe the WASR's are alreay 922r compliant, provided it is a double stack. The gun is imported in a single stack configuration. Then Century install enough compliance parts. They don't grind the nut off off for cost reasons I assume. I ground mine off, and it was threaded. Remember they are left hand threads.

No, the buffer is just a piece of plastic that goes between the back of the bolt and the rifle. When you cock (or fire) the gun, the bolt hits plastic instead of metal. You're thinking of a rate reducer (?) which I think, doesn't do anything in a semi-auto.

As prince says no there is nor ever has there been any form of buffer in an AK it was engineered to not need one the bolt reverses direction 4 mm before it touches the rear trunion in a properly functioning AK based rifle that is why out of thousands of demilled military full auto kits there are no bashed up rear trunions or bolt carriers......... the link I posted above is a totally shot out barreled AK with a totally wore out recoil spring yet still no damage whatsoever to the bolt carrier or the rear trunion...

As far as the one who mentioned the third world countries etc... just goin an gettin a new ak ........ uh actually if that were the case then ya would never find all these worn out AKs bein used in combat..... the facts are that these rifles get used until they literally fall apart, and still not any bashed up rear trunions or bolt carriers so how do ya spose that could be possible?

I build on average 4 AK based rifles from military parts kits per week, everyday of the week yet the only rear trunion damage that we ever get in the shop is coused by buffers getting in the way of the bolt carrier rather than letting it reverse direction un-impeded........

So anyone else who actually has real experience with REAL MILITARY AKs who would like to provide some pics of a rear trunion and bolt carrier they have ran into thats just hammered to cr#p from being slammed together? Cause I've done provided pictorial evidence that buffers serve no purpose so if anyone wants to argue that they do serve a purpose ya really needa provide same evidence but in the form of pics of real damaged rear trunions and bolt carriers in rifles with in-spec recoil assemblies to counter my pics of a rifle WAY outa spec in every aspect especially the recoil assembly.........

Come on folks just the real facts just like I've provided not the marketing hype used to sucker ya outa your money........ real facts only

BTW..... All of that extra room in the rear of the AK reciever... well thats exactly WHY a buffer is not needed the bolt carrier is provided sufficient room provided nobody adds any cr@p in its way to decelerate then reverse direction without hitting anything.... such a simple design

TOU, exactly, ya don't have to be an engineer ya only need a piece of masking tape stuck to your rear trunion to see that the ONLY way ya can damage your AK by rear trunion contact is to add something for the bolt carrier to actually hit... ie; a buffer

922R has nothing to do with Clintons Ban,

AK Style rifles are still covered by the 1990 ban on importation of foriegn made assault weapons so if ya modify your legal "sporting rifle" which was legal to import because it didn't have the evil high cap mags (ya legally can't even put a mag that holds more than 10 rnds in your Saiga without bringing the rifle fully into 922R compliance inserting that 20 round mag makes ya a criminal) or threading its non threaded muzzle, or adding a pistol grip etc... all put it under 922r and ya gotta turn it into a USA made gun......

I dunno if the link above is the same but it was loading slow for me so here are two more clips of AKs firing:

Notice here there doesn't seem to be much impact force with the carrier:

However in this video the slamming of the bolt carrier rearward seems to be just as if not more violent than the recoil from the firing of the gun itself!

I have a Blackjack buffer in my SLR-95, but as a happy medium I ground it down some. I do notice a difference in the way it shoots. In another AK it may not make much difference.
