Ok, here is what I've got. A Remington 700 Varmint in 308 with the synthetic stock. I was having scope problems with it and was doing a lot of figuring out what was wrong. After 4 days of testing, I had hurt the bursa in my shoulder. I'll admit, it was my fault. I wasn't holding the gun right, leaning too far forward shooting off a shaky card table. Weather was nasty and I'd run out the door, fire four 3 shot groups and come back into the house. I was shooting off a card table and wasn't holding the gun right. Anyway, after a month of pain I went to my doctor, who is a hunter. He told me I need to put some sort of recoil pad on the gun to prevent this, but improper holding of the gun won't stop my problem. Since I already have a slight problem with this shoulder, he made the comment that maybe I should stop shooting it. I don't want to do that. Do the ready made recoil pads that screw on to this model really that much better? And if so,what would be a good one?

I like the hi-vis X-coil pad. Really tamed my a-bolt. only runs about $30 and has a very good fit. Easy install too.

Pachmayr is one of the products I was looking at. It was the prefit Decelerated pad. The other was the Remington R3 prefit pad. Doctor also recommended a shoulder pad. I was also looking at the Past products. This stuff is new to me. I used to not care if a gun bruised me up, just laugh it off. This time I wouldn't heal up. Doctor has me on some inflammation meds, but is not sure if the pain will come back after the meds run their course.

look at what Remington installs on the new production 700's....

"R3® recoil pad with Limbsaver® patented technology"

get it from Remington here....

...sounds kinda like marketing speak for a Limbsaver purchased in mass with the word Remington molded onto it.

I put a Limbsaver on my 1300 12 ga. and my 336 .30-30 and it did WONDERS!!

If the Remington branded pad won't work with you stock go to ....

and down load the templates for the pads that look close....then print the template and do a dimension check to make sure your printer didn't shrink or magnify the image. Re-size it on a photo-copier if needed and then check the template to your existing but plate.

Your going to increase you LOP by about an inch.

Kickeez pads are very similar.

I think Limbsaver and Kickeez blow the old style rubber pads away.
