recomend good hand made traditional hawk?

Well today one of my Co workers absolutely fell in love with the trail hawk I had worked over. Apparently he had never seen a hatchet you could shave with. And sense I'm ready for something els anyway, I went ahead and let him take her home.

So. I'm looking for a traditional style hawk (don't care for tacticool) made well with good steel. Something I can get stupendously sharp, preferably with a hammer rather than spike on the back. A good usable hawk. Any recommendations?

H & B has some more than adequate, hammer polled, round, eyed light axes.

I have had a H&B tomahawk for over 35 years now. Have done a lot of chopping. I talked to the owner, he tempers the edge to 40-45 rockwell. He said that was the hardness of a typical double bitted axe. Claims that if it gets much harder you cannot use a file to create an edge. Tomahawks use 1095 as the insert, and the head is 1018 steel.

If you wanted knife blade hardness for the 1095 bit I don't see a reason you could not call and see if the owner would heat treat that way.
