My wife has reached the limits of accuracy that can be had with her Sig239 for target/bullseye work. It's been doubling as her CCW and range gun for several years now and she shoots it amazingly well, having no problem keeping all of her shots into two inches as 25 ft and around double that at 50. She terrorizes lots of other members at our club who have expensive target pistols. Now it's time to see what she can do with a proper target pistol, preferably in 9mm. While not recoil sensitive, she does not like the additional weight of my Sig 220 Sport in 45acp so I think 9mm is a good platform to stick with. I'd like to keep the budget at $1,200 or less, maybe a bit more if a particularly good argument can be made for spending more. Ideas, comments, suggestions?

S&W 952 would be a great choice.

However... your $1200 price limit will take a beating.

Good Luck...

Does she want a target-target gun or a plinking-target gun? How about a Sig X-5 Tactical for about $1350 or so (list is $1800)? Night sights, SAO absolutely crisp 4.5# trigger and stunning accuracy. I bought the version with the threaded barrel because that's what the man had at the gun show when I stumbled across it.

I have other accurate guns, but this one quickly became a favorite. Made in Germany, stainless slide, alloy frame, test target included, etc., etc.

The high-end "real" X-5 is at least $1,000 more. Adjustable trigger down to 2 or 2.5 pounds, target sights, etc. It also weighs more - 47.2 oz. - because of the stainless frame. The Tactical has an alloy frame and still weighs a hefty 35.5 ounces.

I still like my Pythons...

"Only one pistol rivals the legendary P210 for accuracy and it’s called the X-Five. Capable of delivering under 2” groups at 50 yards"

She wants a `target-target' gun, all of the other bases are covered- plinking, CCW, hunting, etc. I really want to see how much she is capable of with the proper pistol suited to her for target use only. I appreciate all the replies so far!

I believe she might be looking at a target gun like this? Most of this type comes in 22LR, very few in 9mm.

But another +1 for STI Trojan from me. ~$1,000 and comes in 9mm/38Super/40S&W/45ACP.
According to the attached linked article, STI Trojan got 2.38" average group at 50 yards (150 feet)!

STI "Trojan" 5"
Black Hills 125 gr. FMJ 1,146 2.87
Federal 124 gr. Hydra-shok 1,063 2.61
Federal 124 gr. FMJ Match 1,105 2.22
Winchester 147 gr. TCMC 944 1.87
6.0 gr. Power Pistol 121 gr. Hornday JHP 1,170 2.33
Average: 2.38

Ditto the STI Trojan $999, Springfield loaded 9mm $1100, S&W1911 9mm PRO $1299, Dan Wesson Guardian $1399, or if you want to really shoot the moon... Nighthawk Custom Dominator 9mm $3000.
Triggers on most good 1911s is to sweet with the Springer having the stoutest trigger pull of the pistols listed. She would love the Guardian its a Bobtail, heck I would love the Guardian, but I'm saving for the Nighthawk... maybe

My 220 Sport weighs in at 48 ounces, the standard 220 is around 32 or so. Thats why she finds it heavy, much heavier than a standard 220. It's front heavy too with the longer slide.

Since you're going to get hundreds of different answers, I'll add mine as well:

HK USP9 Expert

Amazing balance, reliability, and accuracy. Recoil is like a .22. Good luck finding one ....

If you really want to spend money the Sig P210 is hard to beat. That being said, my next gun may be a CZ SP-01 or Tactical Sport. Reviews of the Witness Elite Match are also excellent. (CZ clone)

The Shadow has a much better grip. Its length of pull is superior IMHO.

But the tactical sport has a better trigger and is more accurate.

The Tactical Sport is heavy. If she does not like the weight of the P220 she will not like the Tactical CZ

The shadow is a heavy gun too.

I like the shadow but the TS is a better range gun.

A sleeper and a Best Buy is the EAA Witness Elite Match;
http://eaacorp.com/handguns-witness-elite-match-TP.html

The gun is single-action only , holds 18 Rds. 9mm , all steel gun , has good after-market parts , can be converted to .22rf,9mm,38 Super , 10mm , 40S&W , and .45acp with kits or barrels from EAA that simply fit onto the frame you already have. ----- Plus the fact that EVERYONE who has one agrees that they are all Scary Accurate in all caliburs--- I rate them on a equal with my high dollar , very custom , Jim Clark Sr, Bill Wilson , Steve Nastoff guns !!!

Pic of the first mag I ever shot thru my .40;

EDIT ---- they sell for around $550 new in any calibur !!!!
