Recommend a decent knife for me. Every day carry (preferably with a clip). 3" or less blade. I kind of like the CRKT M16s (although they may be a little long). What else is similar?

CRKT is the king of the low priced folders. I'm also a big Spyderco fan. My EDC for years and years has been a fully-serrated Calypso Junior with micarta handles - which I hear has been discontinued...which is just a crying shame. It's an amazing EDC.

That would be my highest recommendation for a reasonably priced EDC. Feels better in the hand than anything else I've carried, and just feels better the harder you work it. Good luck finding one, though. I'm about to replace mine with a Chris Reeve Sebenza (happy dance!) but I plan on keeping the Calypso Jr. for sentimentalities sake.

I'd also look at Benchmade, they have alot of great knives in the lineup. Kershaw also makes great EDC knives.

PS: I just found a micarta Calypso Jr. on ebay here. Buy this knife. I'm serious. No really.

PPS: The guy with the auction says that the one he has is the pre-production run 'experimental' version - which was the first one I had. I got it when it was an X38743 or something from this guy. I broke the tip and sent it to Spyderco begging them to fix it and I would pay anything. That's when I learned that they had put it into production as the Calypso Jr. You want this knife.

I would call the guy and offer to buy it outright and see if he bites.

Anything by Benchmade. They are more expensive ($70-120), but I think they are worth it. Very well made, very sharp, and Benchmade will resharpen them for free. Here are my top two suggestions:

Mini Stryker

Ares

I've used both, the Ares is my current EDC. Another good, cheaper choice would be the Smith and Wesson S.W.A.T. series. Those run $30-40. Not quite as nice, but they are much better than the drop in price might suggest. All depends how much you want to spend...

Well look at that. Eatatjoe's link says that the lightweight version of the Calypso Jr. has been revived, in VG10 too. I'd still get the ebay one - which has the micarta and not the nylon (zytel) handle.

edc

You did not mention how much you want to spend. I have a ka-bar - dozier that was around $ 20 . It has a pocket clip and the blade is right a 3 inches. Mine is easy to sharpen and is one of my edc's

Spyderco Delica, Lil' Temperance, or Chinook II (I carried the Delica for seven years and replaced it with the LT, the Chinook II would have been my pick but it wasn't out or rumored yet).

If the standard M16s are a little too long what about their EDC version? CRKT came up with a slightly smaller version just for folks like you.

All the other knives mentioned are good knives. I carry a Spyderco midsize Goddard (another discontinuted micarta handled Spydy) sometimes.

I carry a CRKT Mirage with a Wharncliffe (straight edge and curved back) blade. The straight edge is really handy. I think they're out of production but you can probably find one if you look. May be a little over 3".

i just got a mini griptilian from emergeny option for $53 - link

i've been carrying if for a week now. i love it. very smooth action. very solid knife. great lock up. clip is very secure. steel is good. i'm never going back to spyderco again.

If your on a tight budget I recomond the kbar dozier- can befound for 16-20 dollars usually. I gave out three of these last year as gifts, and converted two people into daily knife carriers.

Little but more I like any of the spiderco offerings, and most of the crkt. My personal favorites are my spyerco native III and benchmade griptilian. If you have a budget of 100$, I recomond go pick up as many knives as you can and have fun, its easy to find something good.

I have several CRKTs, including two M16s - a drop point and a Tanto point. The drop point is my EDC and other than surface rust on the liner (inside the little holes on the handle) I have zero complaints other than the fact that it is a bit heavy.

Any of the plastic Spydercos would make a great lightweight EDC but I would rather lose or damage a $25 knife than a $60 knife. After looking over this thread, I will be picking up a Dozier spearpoint though.

Another vote for the BM griptilian, in whatever flavor you like. The axis lock and ergo's of these knives are great. Replaced my spyderco's in the carry rotation. (Grip, mini-grip, AFCK 806).
