Just getting into shotguns and am looking for recommendations for a camo autoloading 12 gauge for turkeys. Doesn't have to be camo, but they look cool :)

Love my Remington 11-87. It's a gas gun and can be a little picky with super light loads but if you're taking turkeys you shouldn't have a problem. Comes in camo too!

I use a mossberg 930 for 3 gun competition. Its a great gun for that, they make a version or 2 for turkeys as well. The remington versa max has a good rep. Or get one of the 1100's- you could get camo furniture from a company like midway and maybe have the barrel coated in cera or something like that. Whatever you do, you will want 3" mag, with a full choke or the ability to screw in a full or extra full.

Can't quarrel with the Remington 11-87. Camo does cost almost $200 more than black, if it's worth that to you. You may be able to find one used at a gun store or pawn shop, if you are wiling to go taht route to save some money. I found an 1100 for less than half the price of new at a gun store and I'm very happy with it. For a starter gun, used may be the ticket.

Mossberg 930 gets my vote. They will cycle just about any load, and are soft shooting. I own or have owned lots of autos, and the 930 is my favorite all around 12ga.

Thanks! I will check these out. A used gun would be a good option too. Turkeys are a huge pest on crops here in Maine.

I prefer my SxS for birds but my 11-87 has taken 100's or deer, 1000's of ducks, geese, and doves, and a bunch of turkeys without any problems. Before the 11-87 I had a 1100 and it was a great gun but lost overboard in a storm. There are more expensive auto loaders but the 11-87 is the one I have any experience with.

The Mossberg 930 gets my vote as well. My brother has a semi-auto Stoeger that is camo. He uses it for waterfowl. I think it is a M3000 model but I can't say for sure. I don't think he paid more that $400 - $500 for it but I could be wrong. I don't own a Stoeger but I know his has never had any problems, and he beats the crap out of his things.

I bought a Weatherby SA-08 in 20 gauge a couple years ago. It has performed flawlessly. I need a modern 12 for waterfowl next Fall since all of mine are pre-steel shot. Another SA-08 is in the running.

You do know that here in Maine there are Turkey Hunting Seasons, right?

Doesn't matter what gun you use or how much they bother your crops,

if you shoot one "out of season" you could have bigger problems than

lost crops. Just sayin'

Yes, I am aware of that. There is also a provision that allows farmers to kill turkeys because of crop damage. My crops are OK so far, but I know what the rules are.

...........Before the 11-87 I had a 1100 and it was a great gun but lost overboard in a storm. ...........

You actually lost a firearm in a boating accident.

Mainecoon, If a crop damage permit allows use of a rifle, I'd much rather have a 22lr or 22mag. You'll want to put it through one of their wings to keep them grounded.

If it doesn't have to be cammo, a used beretta 390 may be worth a look, $400ish+. The A300 has replaced them and start out at $650ish. Have heard good things on the new weatherby as well.
