i shoot this gun pretty well and really enjoy it. i'd like to send it out to have a bit of work done and am looking for recommendations of who i should consider to do the work. mainly it will be action and trigger work, a new custom from sight, and possibly minor round butting of the grip frame. which brings me to my next question...

has anyone ever roundbutted their own? doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult unless there is something i'm missing. i would send it out to have some nice grips made after the fact.

so...
who do you guys like for ruger single action work? what work have you found to be worth the $, and what should i avoid? this is to be used for the range, truck duty, and woods carry.

any help is appreciated.

Those are really cool little sixguns! David Clements is excellent. As is Jim Stroh. Also well-reputed are Hamilton Bowen, Ben Forkin, Alan Harton, Andy Horvath, Jack Huntington, John Gallagher and a bunch of others I'm forgetting. Clements did the final touches on this one and it's what I'd do with yours as well. Roundbutt, lanyard ring, Bowen sights, custom front, freewheeling cylinder, action job, #5 basepin, etc..

that's pretty much what i'm looking for, craig.

i like the roundbutt job on yours and how the front isn't rounded as much as the rear. not so sure about the lanyard, though. what are your thoughts on it?

mine shoots to point of aim, but the rear is bottomed out, and i'd like a little more adjustment. any value to a gold bead on the partidge front? i can't see from the pics, but craig, do you have any lines inlaid in the the front sight?

i would like to have my stainless blackhawk engraved if i could find somone local to do it and a set of stags i like to carry it when riding horses in the back woods

I think the lanyard ring is an interesting touch of class and adds a good bit of utility but isn't very expensive to do.

The toe of the butt was not rounded at all, only the heel. Just how I like it.

The front sight is a plain patridge. I've never tried a gold bead but if you go with an interchangeable front sight base, you can always get a couple different blades to try. I'll probably get some gold bars inlaid in the next one for long range shooting.

thanks for the info on the grip, as now i know what to spec. i do think the lanyard adds a nice touch, but just not sure i'd actually use it.

on a side note. i hope you don't mind seeing the holster you made taking on some good honest wear (i.e. scuffs and scratches). it'll get used more than not, as i really have no 'safe queens' :D

Of course not, I want you to use it and use it hard. Then report back to me on how it's doing. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome. :)
