Ok .. wierd no one has mentioned the greatest gun-showing flick of all time ..

Boondock Saints. Guns ALL OVER THE FREAKING MOVIE!

Way of the Gun, already mentioned by GreenFurniture, but worth repeating. For gun related action, this one is a must see.

Children of Men has great gun sounds Private Ryan is pretty good except for a few fake scenes. Forest Gump actually had a decent firefight scene.

Enemy at the Gates I thought was kind of fake. Impossible heads shots every time someone pulled the trigger.

The best gun scene hands down goes to Heat, put it on surround sound and you start ducking your head to avoid being shot.
Saving Private Ryan, I can not watch it without shedding a tear during the final Normandy American Cemetery scene.
Platoon
Unforgiven
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
and any other Clint Eastwood western

The Salton Sea w/ Val Kilmer.

"8 shots or was it 9"

Great neo-noir film, very underrated and a relative unknown, gun people will like it :D

The doctor from Way of the Gun was in it btw

Another

I am watching a movie that I like very much, and that just recently came out on DVD. THE ST VALENTINES DAY MASSACRE. It is an older movie, and didn't get very good reviews because it was made by Roger Corman. Lately, it seems that it has been re-evaluated by the critics and called a very good flick. It is more or less historically accurate too. Unforgiven has my vote as the best western of all time.

Most of the Hong Kong John Woo Movies. Hardboiled and Killer are 2 good ones to start with. For old style guns, Last of the Mohicans and Patriot are quite well done as far as the weapons. Certain aspects of the story in Patriot were stupid beyond belief, though.

"Secondhand Lions" is a must-see. Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, Haley Joel Osment, Nicky Katt, and Kyra Sedgwick. 2003. The opening scene where the old guys are blasting their shotguns at every travelling salesman that comes near their farm is a hoot. Rated PG, so the whole family can watch.

Breaker Morant. A gritty, riveting movie. One of the first truly successful Australian productions. Edward Woodward (TV's "The Equalizer", in the 80's) and Bryan Brown (FX, another excellent movie) provide marvelous performances.

The story is about Australians serving in the Boer War (1899-1902). The gun play is excellent. It's especially displayed during the Boer attack upon the British fortification. This movie is famous for it's line, "We shot them under Rule 303!"

I highly recommend this fine film.

My top gun movie picks have mostly all been mentioned:

HEAT
Ronin
Way of the Gun
Lord of War
Tears of the Sun
Blackhawk Down
The Professional
Enemy at the gates
Saving Private Ryan
the Bourne movies
Boondock Saints
Unforgiven

....I could go on and on:D

I watched Open Range and The Quick and the Dead on AMC last night. I like it that Cosner used an 1873 rifle. The Quick and the Dead is a pretty dumb movie but the six guns were the best. Adding to the "Hollywood" factor was the new R-P ammo featured in the cylinders. The costumes in both movies were pretty realistic.

As far as a combination of entertaining gunplay and a pro-gun message is concerned, the remake of Dawn of the Dead is by far the best gun movie I have seen. Incredibly pro-gun and very, very entertaining.

WINCHESTER 73, starring Jimmy Stewart. The storyline of the movie revolves around possession of a very special "1-of-1000" Winchester rifle, model 73. In a contest for the rifle, the protagonists tie at shooting still targets, so a shootoff involves shooting a metal link taken from the necklace of an Indian among the crowd of onlookers and tossed into the air. Stewart's character shoots at the washer which falls to the ground untouched. He then maintains he must have shot through the center (hole) of the washer. A stamp is placed over the hole and the washer is rethrown. <---that one is actually about a gun.

a few missed

I really enjoyed the following:

Saints and Soldiers (I'm a sucker for a Garand)
Assault on Precinct 13 (the new one, very cool Sig 550 Series)
MI:3 (hated the "point shooting" but the rest was cool!)
The Bourne Movies
Goldeneye/Casino Royale (heresay but I believe probably the two best bond movies!)

Guilty pleasure:
American Outlaws :D

Equilibrium is fantastic. Cool story line too. Can't believe nobody else mentioned this one!
The Way of the Gun - real world tactics, and realistic gunplay.
Resident Evil I & II - Milla Jovovich + guns = Good
Once Upon a Time in Mexico - over the top, but good
Desperado - see above
Heat
The Jackal - sprawl
Boondock Saints - great flick - how it should be

Carbine Williams

This is the story of David Williams, the man who invented the M1 carbine while in prison. A really interesting story. Not a movie for those who insist on special effects and explosions, but a good old movie.

1. Man On Fire

+1!!!! What a great flick.

Predator. Purely unrealistic but seeing a hand-held mini-gun used as a jungle weed-eater is pretty cool.

Patton is excellent too. Not a lot of gun play but a great flick with George C Scott as Patton.

"They're Ivory. Only a New Orleans pimp would carry pearl-handled pistols."

I wonder if Nagin has a set? :D
