Recommend powders for rifle reloading

Thanks again! I do have several reloading manuals already...Hornady, Lyman, Lee I think plus several single cartridge manuals.

4895 again !

H and I

While not interchangeable grain for grain, its close enough that you could buy either, and be well served with either purchase.

Everything I've used H4895 in, i've now used I4895 in.

I like H4895, mainly because of the smell. Weird preference, but there it is.
tooo funny... I have a friend that after opening a powder can , the first thing he dose is smell it and grin like a junkie !

Not exactly personal experience (I only load 223 in rifle cartridges, so far....), but I've always heard IMR4895/H4895 (don't think they are the exact same powder but are very close IIRC) is one of the most ubiquitous rifle powders out there. It might not get accuracy up there with H335,BL-2, CFE223 or Varget but it's very good to have on hand for being so darn flexible.

Same here.

Kindred spirit.

Don't worry- someone will come along and tell us the hazards of huffing H4895, wait and see.
Man the smell of that stuff is potent every time I screw off the lid on my IMR4895....definitely wakes you up for that reloading session.

Most of the cartridges you've listed are similar in capacity except the .223 and 30-06. All of the suggestions made are good ones but I did noticed a powder missing that I've had exceptional results with in 22-250 and 7mm-08. That powder is IMR-4007 SSC. I get very high load density in both cartridges and very consistent velocities. My favorite 22-250 load is 40.0g and a 50g V-max (3750 FPS). In 7mm-08 I use 47.9g with 120g Ballistic Tip (3050 FPS).

BEing late to this thread, I'll apologize in advance if my message has already been stated. I'm far more experienced with reloading pistol calibers than rifle calibers, but the little I've done has taught me a few things:
1.) IMR/H4895 seems to work "okay" in almost everything, and "really very well" in most things. It's sorta the "Alliant Unique" of the rifle powders. Additionally, there is abundant data for reduced velocity loads in almost all calibers for the 4895s.
2.) THE 4895s are not interchangeable!
3.) As the ratio of case capacity:bore diameter increases, optimal ballistic performance will be obtained with the slower-burning powders. Any numbers calculated should ONLY be used as a "greater than/less than" comparator. Since there is no good way (at least not available to us) to measure relative burning rates in a rational mathematical form, a correlational connection is the best to be hoped for.
4.) Rule # 3 will be most evident as heavier projectiles are employed.

In my experience, I find Ramshot Big Game works very good for my TC Encore in 7mm-08, if you can find some. It should also do well in 30-06 and 243. Also the Nosler manual is a good source to pick powders for any given caliber with their "best powder tested" notations.
