Recommend small auto for lady's purse.

If you are considering a Kahr CW9 then you would like the Taurus PT-111 Pro. It is only slightly larger, holds either 10+1 or 12+1 rounds on 9X19mm and will cost you less.

Regarding the weight in a purse (someone above said that weight shouldn't be an issue if she carries in a purse,) I actually gave my fiancee a Surefire G2 flashlight, and she later reported that she didn't like the fact that it added extra weight to her purse(!) Probably something to do with how weirdly small the straps are. (What do I know? Never carried one myself...) I would suggest that a polymer frame would be the best way to go. I'm personally a fan of the Kahr, and would suggest a PM9 (due to its very small size/weight,) or the CW9 (if she doesn't like the small handle on the PM, and b/c it's relatively less expensive.)

I personally didn't like how the Kel-Tec felt in my hand, and especially didn't like the trigger pull. But that's a personal taste thing.

Of course, she needs to go to the store and check all this out herself.

First, I don't think carrying in a purse is a good idea...too easy to get the gun stolen.
For purse carry, I think she's be better off with a spray...pepper, mace...something like that.

For a firearm...I'd recommend a snubby revolver (Taurus Mluti-Alloy would be be my first choice). Sooner or later, weight will become an issue
Another one would be a Beretta Tomcat...small, light and has a tip up barrel for easy loading (especially nice if your friend has trouble racking a slide). I bought my wife one of these (she selected it). Of course, now she won't carry!
If she is serious about carrying in a purse...she should look at purses designed for carrying a gun.
