Recommendations for scope and offset red/green dot setup

Hey y’all,

My eyes are getting a bit older and I’d like to put a scope on my AR, I also would like to put an offset red (preferably green) dot sight on for closer shots.

The longest shots I would take would be 200 yards, so I’m thinking a standard 3-9 power scope would work… any recommendations for a good one in the $200-300 range?

In terms of the offset mount, any recommendations for a compact red (preferably green) sight? Hopefully in the $200 range?

Thanks in advance for any advise!

I have a Bushnell RXS100 on my 22 AR to mimic my 5.56, the 5.56 has a Crimson Trace CTS1250 they're both Red dots. The Bushnell has to be turned on while the CT has an auto diming feature so it doesn't run the battery down as long as the cover is on it.
They're both mounted 45° they work good and hold zero. I have some Swampfox mini green dots on aa couple pistols and they're good too but a bit over your 200.
Another option would be one of the many 1-8X LPVOS I have a US Optic TS8x that is pretty much a red dot at 1X

I have a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 on an AR in 450 BM that is in that price range. If I were mounting a red dot I would think one mounted at a 45 like mentioned above would work.

I like an offset red dot in a 45° mount, particularly paired with a 3x to 5x prism. Not particular to a brand, I have them from Primary Arms, Trijicon, SIG, Burris, Leupold, etc.. I'd just want something with "shake awake" and adjustable brightness.

I'd out a better quality 1-4X or similar scope on and forget about the dot sight. A conventional scope on 1X or 1.5X is just as fast as a dot sight up close even in low light. Dot sights make it easier to see the "dot" in low light, but harder to see the target than with a conventional scope. On 4X you have enough magnification to hit a human target to at least 400 yards.

Between the 2 a scope is more precise, a dot sight is lighter and more compact. I can't see having both.

Nothing wrong with a 3-9X scope, I have an AR set up that way, but it is a dedicated longer range rifle. For defensive purposes I have a Holosun dot sight which is surprisingly accurate. I can manage 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards. Haven't shot it at 200 yet, but I'm certain I could keep all shots within 5-6", maybe less. That's good enough.

If I only had one AR, it would have a 1-4X or similar.
