I am seeking a full sized 1911 in 9mm... Current production... Any finish other than plain-jane blue steel. Any capacity... Combat sights are the best bet - no need for adjustable.

Can anyone suggest any that are worthwhile that would run $800 or less? If I have to go more than $800, I can probably get someone to buy my S&W M&P 9mm from me locally..,

Thanks in advance!

Sounds pretty much like you described Springfield's 9MM 1911 in chrome finish.

Edited to add that I went to Springfield's website to get more information for you, and it reminded me how much I hate their newly designed site - drives me nuts. Anyways, they used to have a combat sight model, but only saw the one with adjustables on it. For price, you'll probably hit your $800 mark or may need a few extra bucks depending on how prices are in FL for you. (nice area you live in....my parents are down in Melbourne).

para-ordnance may have something in that price range. I just scanned their catalog today, and they have several 9mm 1911's. But no prices were listed on the brochure...

gunbroker.com, search for "1911 9mm" see what hits.

For $800 you can most likely find an original Colt Series 70 in 9mm. I have one and it shoots like a dream. If you don't want a used one and want new only then Springfield Armory and others have them in 9mm. Good luck!

If you can find a kimber id reccomend it. I just shot 200 thru my new stainless target II today and it shoots amazing. Only 2 failures to eject and the slide didnt lock back on one of the magazines one time (but after i cleaned it when i got home it decided to work). Ive only shot a few times with pistols, but this gun makes me look good.

I went throught this excerise a few months ago. For me it came down to the Kimber stainless target II or the stainless Springfield models (fixed or target sights). In either case three gun shops could not find any of them. I gave up. Out of spite ;) I went on a plastic spending spree and bought an XD9 tac, M&P9, and G17. I don't know why these makers don't make 9mm 1911's more available. It certainly seems like there is a demand.

If you've never shot a 1911 in 9 mm, you don't know what you're missing. It's got to be cheating because it kicks and flips so little. This is the perfect training gun."

USED STI

I found a slightly used STI TROJAN in 9mm.....it does have adjustable sights.....for $850. It has been fantastic! Don't be afraid of a nicer, used model;)

Springfield is definitely an option for me right now... I saw 2 stainless 9mm models on the shelf at my local shop, didn't see if they were adjustable or combat sights though.. They gave me a ballpark price of $850 without looking it up.

I've been bitten by the 1911 bug - BAD... Just trying to explore other options so I know what to look for this weekend at the Melbourne, FL gun show..

If you're willing to go with a blued model in the used market, keep an eye out for old Colts. I picked up a MKIV Series 80 for $600, so they are out there.

If your local shop has new ones in stock for $850, that would be a decent deal - as mentioned earlier these just aren't that common. (I may be wrong, but it was either Kimber of Springfield that only runs batches of the 9mm 1911's once or twice a year).

I figure I will go to the show Saturday morning - if I can't find anything there based on the options being given here, I'll swing by my local shop and pick one up there..

Even though it's not on the Taurus site their Catalog has 2 different models of PT1911 in 9mm. They also have 2 different models of their 1911 in .40 S&W and .38 Super. (and of course in .45 ACP) They didn't put the List price in the Catalog for some reason but on their site the 1911 in .45 has a List Price of $617 for the Blue and $634 for the SS model. From what I'm told they fly off the store shelf when they come in.

I'm not counting on the 9mm model until next year sometime.. They have yet to release the stainless PT1911, and that was due out late last year. Then they said this summer.. then they said this fall..

I have the PT1911 in their matt blue, and I have to say - I LOVE the gun - but I am not waiting until next year for the 9mm model...

I didn't realize Taurus was that far behind in their 1911 release. I wouldn't wait a year either, hell, I don't like waiting a day or two when I want to buy something!! LOL

The 1911 in 9mm is a great fun shooting platform. You will enjoy it. It is light on the recoil, and generally very accurate. I have a Kimber Target II, and have found this handgun to be one of my favorite range guns.

If you're really having problems finding something, open your search up to guns in 38 Super. For about $200, maybe a little less depending, you can get a 9mm barrell fitted to it. Everything will work with the 38 Super, only thing you might need is a lighter recoil spring.

Nice thing about this is having a gun that will shoot slightly better ballistics, and you can practice with the less expensive 9mm.

That's what I do.

No thanks on the glock - and no thanks for the topic hijack.
:D
I have the SA loaded 1911 in Stainless with adj. sights. I love it. Beautiful gun and shoots VERY well. It is a very good competition gun. Para has the 18.9 with adj. sights only. SA has (or had) the loaded 9mm with novaks. They are harder to find but not impossible.

If you are going to compete with it check this out. I think it's weird that I am trying desperately to trade my SA locally for a M&P 9 compact...

Ok everyone - thanks for the help! I picked up a Springer 9mm 1911 today - will shoot it tomorrow and post a report!

Now - who makes mags for these 9mm 1911's??? Is 9 the max capacity?
