Hi there, thanks for reading my post. Title says it all, looking for recommendations from those who have had experience with good quality speedloader carriers in IDPA, particularly for the HKS 586 speedloader with .38 Special. The picture of the Uncle Mike's nylon carrier looked good before I ordered it, but that thing kills my reload time with the flaps that get in the way.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I use the Ready-Tac speedloader carriers.

Disclosure: I shoot with the maker and normally get good service, but he is in the middle of relocating home and shop and delivery might not be swift.

Blade-Tech makes a good carrier. Otherwise, just pick any brand of kydex gear that you see recommended and see if they make revolver stuff; few do.

There are plenty of leather and fabric pouches available, but as you have seen, they are usually flapped and not fast.

The best I have found is also those by Ready Tactical. It took about two months to get them but hopefully he can get things in order and speed up his delivery times.

I understand they have good speed loaders at http://www.talontactical.com/showproduct.php?prod=Holsters also. They are not on the website but I believe he does have them and they are nice.

I have two holsters from talon and they are great so I assume the holders would be top notch also.

When I shoot revolver IDPA and I can use Safariland Comp IIIs (such as when shooting a Colt Diamondback or Smith 19), I use the pricey but excellent Safariland three-place carrier. Since IDPA only allows two speedloaders on the belt, I just use the rearmost space for the initial load-up.
They have one for the L-frame 586/686 series, too.
This has not run afoul of any rules interpretations yet.
If it's a Python day, then I use the open spring metal carriers with Comp IIs, the mid-length ones.
In any event, I strongly urge you to try a couple of the Safariland Comps, especially the IIIs. They are superior to the twister loaders by a wide margin for competition. In fact, I simply stopped competing with wheelguns for a couple of years because of how discouraged I became with leaving my new six laying in the carrier, or worse, sprayed on the ground.
The Comps are much more positive and secure, not to mention simpler and faster, just what you need when you're trying to go fast.
They're not expensive and you really only need two for IDPA. You can use the old ones for the initial load and for the pocket backups.

cherry river, I agree on the Safariland comp III's. I started out shooting Comp II's with a K frame revolver, when I bought an L frame revolver I bought three Comp IIIs and they are so much faster and fumble free.

If by Safariland thee place carrier you are referring to the #333 model then it is definately not legal for IDPA. Idpa Rule Book states the carrier must either have a velcro/snap top or fully surround the speedloader body, which the #333 does not do.

If you haven't run into problems with it you are either lucky or maybe have just not shot any sactioned or even tightly run local matches as they usually do a pretty good equipment check.

Just trying to keep you from running into trouble at a match somewhere.

Good luck!

I shoot a revolver in the same IDPA group as Jim Watson, and wouldn't use anything but Ready Tactical gear with my L-frames. Definitely give the carriers a shot.

Thanks a lot for all of the suggestions everyone!

Even though our local club tends to be somewhat loose with regard to our monthly "Practical Pistol" matches, I want to stay well within the rules so that I am prepared to shoot in a sanctioned match or if I go somewhere else to shoot. I don't necessarily think that gives me any disadvantage because the spirit of the IDPA rules is to just keep the equipment on a somewhat even level and dispense with the race guns.

I am going to check out all of the recommendations made so far and any new ones closely. I value everyone's opinion and appreciate them very much.
