Does anyone know if there are any red dot or holo sight sites made with a built in mounting system that fits a .22 rim fire rifle grooved receiver? I know there are mounds for .22 that will accommodate Weaver type mounts, but that puts the sight too high on the gun and looks terrible.

Years ago, cheap BSA red dots (and their competition) could be had with a built in rimfire groove mount.

Nowadays, you might want to look into the classic tube style UltraDots or their cheaper clones. Depending on the model, they use either 1" (25mm) rings or 30mm rings like a traditional rifle scope. Which means you can get low rimfire rings to work with it.

BTW, it seems that UltraDot ships their red dots with weaver rings now. So, you'll still have to get the rimfire rings separately.

Higher-end red dots with .22 bases are slim pickings, but there are a number of cheaper plinking-grade ones. I’ve tried one of these with good results:

The biggest downside is that the battery drains quickly if you forget to turn it off, and a 5-MOA dot is a bit course for precision shooting at range (the dot subtends 5 inches at 100 yards and 2.5 inches at 50). But for fast shooting, it was a ton of fun, especially when shooting racks of steel plates.

Haven't had a lot of luck finding low profile bases, most of the time end up machining my own. This is one I'm playing with, needs some more taken off to get it lower. Part of a stock Ruger base and a transition plate mounted on top.
