Has anyone experience with mounting a red dot sight on a BHP or one of its FN clones?

I have a MkII mil version BHP with fixed sights to which I'd like to add an optical sight. Having pored through Brownell's, searched the archives here and checked out several of the pistol mount manufacturers, I've thus far come up empty. :( Any recommendations, other than forgetting the idea entirely?

TIA.

One way to go is with the J point sight mounted in the rear dovetail on the slide. The whole deal sight and adapter weighs little more than one ounce and they work good. I have one on my .45 with over 5k rds so far with no problems. The only down side is price, About $249. for sight and mount see it here http://www.jprifles.com/

Now THAT is an elegant solution! Sure not an inexpensive one; if it were, I'd seriously consider replacing at least one other of the red dots I have.

Thanx for the info!

Tall--The sight can be had in 2 different intensity levels so if you decide to buy one keep that in mind. The standard is very bright like a tasco pdp3 or ultra dot set on setting #11. That would be good imo for action pistol etc for close and fast work, the precision model (same price) has a lower intensity dot better suited to bullseye or plinking. It is still bright enough to see under any conditions I've encountered including snow on a sunny day. Just thought I'd let you know. Nick

Thanx!

Nick,

Thanx for that first hand user info. I'd pretty much decided that the low-intenstiy one would be more suitable...most of my shooting is indoors. It's great to know that the low-intensity one is more than adequate for outdoors as well.

The guys at the range where I got my 1st BHP (a blued Mk3 beauty, with adj. sights, and to which I added nice rosewood grips with thumb swells) threatened to disown me if I messed it up by topping it with a red dot sight. This 2nd one is its ugly duckling sibling, so it's fair game for beautification. I've got in mind to replace the barrel with a comp'ed match barrel, tweak the trigger and give it some real sights so my aging eyes can hit the bull repeatedly at 50ft. and 75ft. With all the other $$$-eating projects, it'll be a bit before I can afford the JPoint, but it is on the short list. I'll let you know when I get it and how it works out.

BR,

Ted
