red-dot recommendations?

I've got a tru-glo that I picked up in the bargain bin at cabelas on my brothers sks (mounted on the crappy receiver cover mount) easily minute of milk jug, works just fine, no issues, and it cost $35.) I may get one for myself. leave both eyes open and the dot just floats in my vision, very fast target acquisition. I just can't see putting a red dot that costs more than the gun on my rifle. To me that's like putting swavarski scope on a daisy bb gun.

His buddy has a nice 3x red dot he hates.

I hear bad things about the gas tube rail.

your results may vary.

What about the ACOG Reflex? I think they are still under $400 and reliable, no battery or switch, almost bullet proof and always on.

Strikefire Love!!

Vortex Strikefire. $150 bucks. Get the mount and a 2x magnifier with it. So far I am impressed with mine.
I ALSO have the Strikefire red dot sight on my AR-15. I so far am in love with this thing! It holds zero like any high end scope and its super cost effective! I couldn't believe what i got for the money!

As for the 2x magnifier... ya, its a good feature to have and I'm glad it was included but i have maybe shot 20 rounds with it on my gun... Your field of view is soooo narrow when the 2x doubler is installed that i just keep mine wrapped up in my gun bag. Almost not even worth putting it on but like i said, its a cool feature and I'm glad i got it with my sight. Other than that i love the red/green changing dot and different brightness levels.

Other thing that is kinda questionable about the Strikefire is that the power button in on the left side sticking out so it can be bumped on very easily. Have extra batteries!! :)

I like my Vortex Stikefire too. I've had no problems with it holding zero or being visible in daylight. The doubler is rarely used. Maybe if it was 4x, but the 2x is sort of useful.

I would buy another.
