I'm planning a scout rifle project for my Mosin M-44, but rather than an extended eye relief scope, I was considering a Red Dot in 40mm.

My plan is this: mount the red dot using high mounted rings, and a Magpul MBUS GEN2 rear sight so I have iron sight backups.

Also, would haveing the MBUS mounted that far forward effect the sight picture? I've got ghost rings on my Mav88 that are mounted on the bbl in front of the receiver, and the sight picture is just fine, so I'm thinking a similar eye relief on the M-44 wouldn't be an issue.

I envision the rifle to be set up like the AR above, only on a Mosin and longer eye relief on the sights.

For now, it's going to remain in it's original stock. The cheek weld is good for factory iron sights, so I imagine it should be ok with the scope mount. Although, with the red dot higher than the factory sights, and the MBUS too, for that matter, I may need to raise my cheek weld with a pad of some sort.
