I have a Ruger Mark II with a 10" bull barrel that my dad gave me. When my dad got it (he bought it new, years ago) he put a Tasco pistol scope on it using, I believe, a B-square mount. I am thinking about putting some sort of red dot sight on it mainly for plinking and possibly some squirrel/rabbit hunting in the future.

Any suggestions? I would like to keep it under $100 and preferably around $50 but understand I will get what I pay for. Also do you think a tube type of holographic/reflex type would be better?

Personally, I think the Weigand mount is the best looking. I used one for a long time and I think you wind up with a smoother looking rig using this mount. The rear sight has to be removed and the mount utilizes the dovetail. It also puts your red dot farther to the rear and the weight more squarely in the palm of your hand:

The Weigand Mount

Uh oh... Looks like that place is out of them. You can order direct from Weigand though. Second mount from the top...

Red Dot on the Cheap

I have many red dots ranging in price from $30 to $300.
It's hard to tell the difference in most, with the cheapies having a shorter battery life.
Batteries, just something else to keep in the range bag.
Some of the cheapies do not fit the mount rail well.

The best (of the cheapies) I've found are made by TruGlo and fit the best.
30mm tube size seems to be the best compromise of weight and field of view.
I would suggest using the mount you have and trying a TruGlo for function, not style.

I too have scopes with no magnification but prefer the red dots.
They also take sight alignment/focus out of the equation for new shooters or old shooters with tired eyes.

Just my opinion, your's may vary,
Tilos

I've got a Simmons #800879 Red Dot on a MKIII678 that only cost $30. It is great for 50 yd plates and has a 4 MOA dot. I wouldn't recommend a larger dot.
