Not entirely new, but I got around to modifying a Redding 10-X powder measure to work on my Hornady L-N-L progressive press.

The original information came from 1858 and rsmith0399 and can be found in the following:

http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-456654.html

After a discussion of installing a RCBS Uniflow with the Hornady case activated linkage on a Pro2000, this thread deals mostly with modifying the Redding BR30 powder measure. The Redding 10-X is a bit easier to modify. For whatever reason, Redding makes the position of the operating handle on the two powder measures different. The BR30's operating handle is near vertical when the metering insert is in the down position. The handle on the 10-X is nominally parallel with the metering insert similar to the Hornady L-N-L powder measure.

Besides the powder measure, you need a Hornady case activated powder measure linkage kit. The kit comes with the drop tube, linkage, mounts, powder drop die and some misc. other goodies.

The powder drop area of the 10-X powder measure is bored virtually ideally for tapping 9/16-18 NF threads required for the drop tube. I finished tapping the hole with a bottoming tap extending the threads only as far as needed for the drop tube to bottom out on the shoulder inside the outlet of the powder measure.

As per rsmith0399's modification, I put a slight flare in the top of the Hornady drop tube. The flare is to fill the slight space between the drop tube and wall of the powder measure. 1858 feels this is not necessary but my drop tube had a small ding in it so I was in part getting the drop tube back to round.

The only modification to the link that attaches to the drum of the powder measure was to slim the lever to fit within the flanges on the drum. I did not have to drill any more holes in the linkage. The BR30 requires more extensive modification due to the different angle of the mounting flange on the BR30's metering drum. Both 1858 and rsmith0399 have innovated solutions for the BR30.

I adjusted the powder drop die to work with my cartridge specific drop tubes so that I only need the one powder drop die.

The pictures should be self explanatory. I am afraid the picture of the drop tube does not show the flare very well but it is there.

So far, I have run 50 cartridges of 44 Special loading Unique with good results.
