Does the Redding competition die with the Micrometer top fit the Lee Classic Turret press and if so: How accurate could it be with the significant play at the top of the stroke? If I am stuck w/the Lee die is there anyway to get rid of the play for a more consistent and accurate bullet seating?

Shim between the shell holder & seating die?

What play? Doesn't the die holder ring get pressed up tight against the frame?

Yes, that die will work nicely.

How are you measuring you oevrall length?

Bob72, “What play?” I have been told Lee seater dies are most accurate? A seater die does not offer case body support, I suggest you attempt dropping a case into the seater die before installing in the press, if any alignment is done it will be above the shell holder at the opening of the die. Any seater die can be used with a dial indicator on top of the die, all my seater dies are used with universal type indicators, the seater plug stem protrudes above the die, if it protrudes I can measure it with a height gage, depth micrometer or a dial caliper, all I am required to do is be able to index it or .000/zero the indicator, the fact the threads are not 20 per inch does not hang me up.

I have (2) RCBS Gold Medal and Competition seater dies, the best feature is the ability of the die to center the bullet in the case mouth, I have made a few bullet seaters that do not use die bodies but offer shoulder and neck support, seating can be accomplished with an old bottle capper of aluminum can crusher.

Are you talking about play between the press body and the turret? If so, no die will fix that.

A good single stage press will eliminate that issue.

If the die is properly locked down, it should not move relative to the item it is screwed into.

The pressure needed to lift Lee's turret head fully up isn't much and seating will normally do it; after that there is no more 'play'.

Any common dies will work on any common press but some die lock rings are too fat to work in Lee's smallish turret heads, ditto some lock rings are too small to work in a Forster Coax; neither is a big deal, IMHO.
