Hi all,

i m using a competition seating die for my 22-250 casing. Recently i am reloading with nosler ballistic tip and sierra hpbt 52 and 53 gr. My problem i had with them is a little circle on the tip on the bullet, i try many configuration to solve it, but still, some are very clear and deep circle and some are light, i know it's cause from the insert that keep the tip straight, but i wonder why it does that, i just hope it might not be a problem for a good accuracy. If anyone had that problem and solve it, hope you can share, cuz now i wonder if it's not a dies with somes mistakes or so.

I would suggest using one of these fine bullet point Polishing wheels to clean up the sharp edge of the bullet seating stem recess. You must keep it square to the stem recess or you will introduce error in the seating process. You just want to break the sharp edge and not change the shape of the recess. The number 1 appears to be the right shape for .22 bullets.

Yep. Just barely break that sharp edge and polish it. A felt wheel on a dremel with some polishing compound will do the trick after you break that sharp edge. The good news is they will shoot just fine with the little ring on them. Yea, I don't like the ring either, but it is just cosmetic. A good polishing will remove most of the ring, if not all on some bullets.

Jimmy and walkalong,
thanks for your reply, i appreciate a lot.

The point i want to confirm...it's normal to have a ring on the bullet if you don't clean up that stem? but once it's done the clean up, no more ring on the bullet?
The wheels you're talking about Jimmy, are the same as the one you put on a dremel?

You can use some 600 grit on your finger to break the sharp edge. Chuck up the seater stem in a drill or drill press and just press the 600 grit against it while running. That will keep it consistent. It doesn't take much. Then a felt bob with polishing compound. If you don't have that. A cotton ball with polishing coumpond, again applied by hand. The dremel will work much better though. It will look like chrome.

They do use a mandrel, not sure they are the same as the Dremel though. The link shows them just below the points.

You may be able to just put some rubbing compound on a bullet like the one you're using, chuck the stem in a drill and press the bullet into the stem as it turns. It may take a few times to cut the edge off.

i should take a pics of mine...you would see that my bullet have a ring, a very deep ring on some, nothing to compare to your bullet walkalong

It does sound like it is taking a lot of force to seat your bullets. Like farmerbuck said measure the expander to see how big it is. A case neck needs to have a good firm hold on a bullet, but too much is not good either.

yes ole farmerbuck, i haven't resize the casing that are news, and observe they were the one who needed more force to get the bullet in it. i resize now all the new unfire casing, and now it work great.

thank to all for your help, it is appreciated.
