Have a Nikon Buckmasters 3x9x40 on my 30-06. Has worked fine but does not gather light like some scopes I've seen. (edited: I initially thought my scope was a Prostaff....It only has "Buckmasters" on it)

Recommend scope for these two scenarios & advise:

1. New scope for my 30-06. Must be atleast 3x9x40 but even a larger view & power is fine. Prefer lightweight. Gathers light well, is clear & good eye relief. Used in rugged country. Keep price under $200. (If this scope is better, I would then use my Nikon on my 30-30)

2. Recommend scope for my 30-30 Marlin. Must be 3x9x40 (or larger view if still lightweight). Can also be 2x7. MUST be small & light since it is going on a lever gun. I don't want to turn my lever gun into a heavy rifle. Must be great in low light conditions & have good eye relief. Must be under $150.

Check the Burris Fullfield ll 3-9x40. It has a 95% light transmission compared to 87% in your Prostaff. More light through the ocular lens means a brighter picture. The Burris has a very clean and clear picture. Mine sits on top of a 300 WSM and have never had a problem nor have I ever needed more scope. You can also find this scope on e-bay for around $155-$165.

I've been looking at a Leupold Rifleman and VX-I. The VX is only $10 more or so. Is it the better scope?

Also, I have an old Weaver Challenger 3-9 at home. I will compare it with some in the store. Know anything about them? What would they compare to. This scope is quite old. I could hardly read the lettering.

I'm really hoping to get something short & lightweight to go well with a lever gun. Yet I keep thinking a 50mm view would be great for wooded hunts.

The Rifleman and VX l have light transmissions of less than 90%, so you won't be any better off than the Nikon you have now.

I'm impressed with Sightron. It's a good scope for the money. Bright and has held it's zero. Mine's mounted on a 223 Varmint rifle that I keep on the 4-wheeler all the time. I like it as good as my Leupold that's on my 7mm08.
I bought one after my shop owner recommended it and I've not been disappointed.
Natchez, Lock- Stock- and Barrel, Graf and Son have good prices on them.

Your's for $225 shipped.

I have a Nikon Monarch UCC Riflescope, 3X9-40. It gathers way more light.

95% light transmission
Ultra ClearCoat Optical system
1/4 MOA adjustments
Nikon Lifetime Warranty
Water/fog/shock proof
Quick-focus eyepiece
1 piece tube

I have one I pulled off of my extra 30-06. It worked great for whitetail. Yours for $225/shipped and I take paypal. Great condition, with flip up caps. I can take pics if needed.

That is some wonderful wood on your M-1. There is nothing like nice looking furniture wrapped around some steel. Yours is a wonderful example of taking a sows ear & turning it into a silk purse. :what: Nice, very nice.
