Been researching ruger redhawks because I would like to get one soon with a 7 1/2 " barrel in 44 mag. Have noticed some have the scope ring grooves and some don't. The 5041 model on Rugers website doesn't have them. Are the grooves specific to years of production or model number? Would like the option to have optics. I have a S&W 29 with 8 3/8" barrel but would like to have a redhawk because.... well because. Sometime want trumps need and my wife is about to run out of things to not believe I've gone and done. :)
Really tho the redhawk is a beautiful revolver IMO. But I've never shot one. Any info anyone would like to share about them would be appreciated.

Super redhawks are optics ready, never saw a standard redhawk with cutouts for rings.
You can tell the difference by the extended frame of the super (longer/thicker where the barrel attaches to the frame)
Redhawks and super redhawks are as good as it gets, fairly normal size wise but able to withstand all you'd care to shoot through them, decade after decade.
Can't go wrong with either.

#5041 is a standard redhawk

According to catalogs, the 7 1/2" Redhawk was available without ring cuts or with ring cuts (including rings) for many years. In recent years, I've only seen new ones without ring cuts (and rings). Not sure of the beginning and ending years of the ring cut/rings option.

Additional info: Model with rings first appeared in 1983 catalog, and was still listed until at least 2015.

The 5003 hunter model is what I was thinking. Actually saw one at buds gunshop.

Well after closer inspection I don't think that is "the one. "

My .41 is a bit older, it doesn’t have the scope ring cuts.

A Fantastic revolver, it is hell-for-stout and accurate to boot. I think you’ll really like one once it’s in your hands.

Good luck with your search.

Stay safe.

I have had two. My second one had scope ring cutouts. I decide to send it back for the 5” barrel. I still have the 7.5” barrel. Here is a picture of the scope ring cut outs. I always liked the RedHawks and still do. F65A0490-A4C0-4BB6-93F2-94A656B58969.jpeg
