"redneck assault rifle" for California

I bet CA compliant guns last forever, it would be impossible to overheat one:neener:

If you want removable magazines, get an M1 carbine, a Ruger PC9, a Mini 14 or M1A.

If you like ARs, get the off list lower and add the bullet button.

If you like lever guns, do it (I think they are really fun). My vote would be for the .357. Cheap .38s for target shooting. Softpoints or hollow points for defense. Buffalo bore ammo for hunting.

By the way, you can't bring any high capacity mags (more than 10 rds) into the state.

Number one rule - don't believe what you read on this or any site regarding california gun laws and what is allowed or not allowed. Calguns.net is probably the most solid foundation of non-web BS regarding Cal gun laws.

Beware the FUD.

Agreed, if it has a greyish laminate stock it was a limited run of about 350 guns and does indeed sell for north of $700. Had a guy offer me $850 for mine.

Go with a Saiga or a Mini-14

People will tell you about how they have AR-15's etc. But the guns have either a bullet button magazine lock and/or the stupid Monster Man grip that makes the rifle handle horribly.

They have neutered aks and ars in calli, and you can have a high capacity shotgun too. that would be my choice. Just nothing over 10 rounds. When I travel to calli I bring an unloaded G19 with a loaded 10 round mag next to it locked in a flimsy plastic gun case that I can easily rip right open w/o unlocking if need be. Legal in all states under federal law and still somewhat easy access.
