Refinishing a revolver

The shop has a cheap Blackhawk that I'm debating buying. REAL POS (50% or less, grips have initials carved in them, some stupid SOB engraved the frame with a scratch awl), but looks fine mechanically.

I would like to do something other than just traditional bluing, and was thinking of maybe browning it. What say you?

Any other finishing options that work for revolvers (obviously, ceramics are out)?
