Refinishing Security Six?

"You're seriously going to trust UPS with even a $400 revolver without insurance???"

Absolutely.

I use FEDEX without insurance and UPS Overnight without insurance with perfect confidence. The overnight services are far more closely controlled and tracked than the general UPS package stream. You cannot track a basic UPS package more than to know it went into the system "here" and hasn't yet been spit out "there". In the overnight delivery service package stream you can track it right down to the specific truck. The don't lose things...

I still prefer FEDEX, which is absolutely militaristic insofar as security and tracking of packages. I ship about 100 shipments of documents and aircraft parts a year using FEDEX standard overnight and have never lost a package. Ever.

Insurance is for when the FEDEX jet crashes into the Pacific, not for routine loss (since there isn't any to speak of).

I wouldn't trust them to deliver it across town without insurance. Fact is, while the contents of the package might be priceless to you, it's still just a box to them. You've been lucky.

I was shipping small fans about a year ago and I shipped a very large box via FedEx containing 20 small fans. I insured it and was lucky that I did because they lost it. Needless to say, I don't share your complete faith in their service.

Which is another way of saying that any given box might contain chicken feathers, or a Ruger, and there's no reason to think that the Ruger will go missing rather than the chicken feathers. It's just a box... and statistically they all get to where they are going. Perhaps one in a million (literally) doesn't. Even that is probably a high estimate based on talking to a few people who work for FEDEX and actually know. These guys are pilots, and have no reason to BS another pilot.

But: I guess it's all a matter of your personal acceptance of risk. I insure risks that I cannot afford to take. LMy house? (which I did in Sandy, actually)? That's something to insure. To lose a $400 handgun? <yawn>...

With that said, I've never had a FEDEX package go astray, insured or otherwise, but obviously your actual mileage may vary.

Kinda like new paint on an old car. This still the same old car, but you feel better driving it! Doesn't do anything for resale value, but it's sure worth a million on the way it makes YOU feel.
