So, with our daughter spending the weekend at Grandma's, my wife and I got to go to the range together for the first time in 8 months.

It was a fun time shooting our guns, a Ruger Mk II, an H&K USPf .40 S&W and my new Ruger Sp-101 in .357. I fell in love big time with my SP-101. Dead on point of aim at 7-10 yards. Even with .357 loads, it was easier for me to control than my H&K. I have fairly short, stubby fingers, and for my, the H&K is getting to be a bit of a handfull. I fear that it may be bound for the land of trade-in sooner or later.

The wife loves her .22, but had some issues with the stiff trigger pull of the SP-101. She is okay with the kick of the H&K, and has used it many times before, but she was unable to do accuarate double-taps. With her though, she is physically unable to reach the trigger in it's DA position. Thank God for cocked and locked.

After using our guns, we decided to rent a few, our main reason for going to an indoor range being to try out some carry guns for my wife. I'm sure the macho factor is involved, but why don't gun ranges rent Kel-tecs, or Guardians, or Tomcats?. All these Smiths, Glocks, Sig's and Kimbers. So, we ended up trying a Sig P230, it being the smallest thing they had for rent.

The wife liked the P230 a lot. The DA pull was much easier for her than on the H&K. I got bit a few times until I learned to alter my grip. The wife's only problem was a lack of a safety on it, but since she liked the feel, I guess I need to find a Walther to try her on.

After she had fun, we rented a Glock 30. I found the large grip kind of difficult to hold, the wife put it down after 2 shots. It was accurate, just kind of chunky. So then, I traded in the Glock and tried a Commander size 1911. Much nicer. I think I may have to get one. Maybe even use my H&K as a trade in...hmmmm.

So, all in all, a well spent Friday afternoon. Way better than working.

Sound like time well spent. Even tho I'm a HUGE HK fan, if you don't fit, move on, find something you'll both enjoy & can ue properly. Also, I'm not a 40 fan, so don't write off USP's entirely, try them in diff't sizes & calibers...the USPc 9 comes to mind ;)

I have often wondered about the selection of rental guns myself.
It turns out that some gun companies have "rental programs" that allow the range to make a bigger profit.
I want to rent a CZ, a Hi power, a Dan Wesson, a Taurus, or a Sig 210. Ok maybe the sig 210 would cost more but the ammo sales would go up with a better rental program.

Sounds like a great day!! My wife and I just got back from one of those days...

Hey, BTW...you can find Sig P230's with safeties on them. They are the Euro model and come with a safety and belt loop lanyard.

I have one in my safe...never been fired. My local dealer had a few that were over runs from a distributor.

Look around...you may be able to find them.

Here is one on gunbroker...you can see a pic of the safety on the side.

Just for kicks. Have her try our a CZ83 or a CZ-100.
Both run about $300 Dealer.

One is like a large walther. smooth da and sa pulls. deadly
accurate. In .32/.380/9mm MAK. Really nice with high-caps.

The other is a 9mm or .40 with a small grip and long DA pull.
A very light, compact and safe service pistol that some people
really love.

SAFE SHOOTING.
