Has anyone had success reforming cases to 7.5 Swiss? I've noticed the .30-06 has a similar rim diameter. Can .30-06 be reformed to 7.5 Swiss with trimming? The case is a little thinner, could it be fire formed?

Much too small. Some reform 284 Winchester but still have extraction problems. Grafs normally has 7.5x55 brass reasonably priced.

I reformed the .284 with no problems, but check grafs they usually have the correct cases.

Nothing from the normal players as far as Prvi brass. Dig a little deeper. Brownells has Lapua brass but $88/100. Ouch.

I reformed 284 Win brass but the diameter of the rim is less, so sometimes the extracted cases fell off the bolt face.

Try to find 7.5 brass first.

I've reformed .284 Win brass and used it in several k-31's with no problems ejecting this brass. The problem is that it is almost as difficult (if not more) to find .284 Win brass and if you do find any the price is extremely high. I gave up on using .284 Win when I started reloading GP-11 brass.

That's about what their 308 Winchester brass go for and I've found it to be very good. Consider the fact you'll probably get many more reloadings from Lapua brass than from many other brands.

In answer to the OP's three questions, they are all yes, yes,and yes.
Can anyone live with, work with, and or use a brass reformed/expanded diameter close to .020" larger at the base? How many full house loads do you want to run through the brass? How many times? I might hold the thought awhile yet. Just about any .473 rim would work, along with French and Swede. When things become unobtainium. maybe
.284 is made by winchester in limited runs. Best-o-Luck

I'm non as concerned with getting the maximum life out of the brass as I am with being able to shoot my Schmidt Rubin when imported ammo becomes more difficult to buy should another panic buy ensue as we near the election. Should I purchase a reforming die? Or trim the brass and size with my 7.5 Swiss full length sizing die and then fireform?

Back when the only 7.5 Swiss cases we could get were berdan primed (1970 ), I bought all the once fired 284 Winchester cases the gun shop had , about 50, lubed them up , lubed the inside of the case necks and carefully ran them into a full length 7.5 Swiss sizing die.
Perfect cases , had no problems with them and I'm still using some those cases .

OP, another option to consider is the Privi brand ammo. You get to stock up on some and then have the reloadable brass for reuse. They are normally decently priced around the $13-17 range for a box of 20. As mentioned, keep an eye on Grafs for the Privi new brass. I picked up a couple of bags from them in the past.

no forming dies except for the 7.5X55 F/L sizing die and lube. fireforming not neccessary. Besides the expanded base area, another cause for concern may be the neck. doughnuts and or thicker necks could be a concern.BestAll

FWIW, many years ago I reformed 200 pieces of 284. All one pass thru the die without any trimming. It is tougher(thicker) brass. I've not worn any out yet. I can not say the same for Norma brass. Any brass will probably be just fine. Typical mode of failure for me is incipient casehead seperations. I do reccomend the paper clip test for seperations before reloading anything, like old range pick-ups with.473" rims especially. Some years ago I had 20 out of 20 incipient seperations from new pmc ammo that I had gotten to use for reloading. Do check
