The small spring under my Luger's takedown lever broke and I have replaced it. I am having trouble reinserting the lever. I am afraid to force it because I don't want to break the tiny spring. any suggestions on the best way to do this?

Thanks,

Drakejake

Making sure the spring is properly located insert the lever into the frame in a in between position.

Use a brass punch or a good strong finger to press down firmly on the round portion of the lever, as you push it into the frame and into position.

I finally decided to pound it in, using wood to protect the metal surfaces. I managed to get it reinserted, although I marred the finish of the right end of the lever through contact with the inside of the frame. Ah, well, at least it is back together. I took the Luger to the range today and it still has the jamming problem it had before the spring under the lever broke. I am fairly certain that the problem is that the the pistol is not fully cycling every time. I think the way to go is to weaken the recoil spring a bit so that there is less resistance to the backward movement of the toggle. Trying to use hotter ammo is too risky, it seems to me.

Thanks for the ideas,

Wrong thing to do.

The Luger will malfunction if the spring is too weak OR too strong.
If in doubt, replace the spring with a new FACTORY spec spring.

Take a look at the trouble shooting steps in your first post down the forum list.
