I am loading for the Ruger Blackhawk in 30 Carbine Revolver. I have somehow trimmed some cases (about 10 each) to anywhere from 1.263 to 1.275 when I wanted and trimmed most of them to 1.280. When I load these 10 rounds with W-296. should I load them at 14.8 grains instead of 15 grains? I ask this because the case is shorter than most I have trimmed at 1.280 and I don't want too much pressure even though the Ruger Blackhawk is built like a tank and can probably handle 15 gr. even in a shorter case. Thanks all who know and can advise me to either trash the short casings or load them with less grains than 15 grains while keeping the OAL of the finished cartridge or maybe it won't make a difference.

The short case length would be a problem in my newer BH, as the firing pin does not protrude as far as the older one. Too short and some cases don't fire as they headspace on the case mouth.

Like some others have said you should be fine and they will grow. W296 is a great powder for that cartridge I tried 2400 and Blue Dot but just settled on W296 and it’s twisted sister H110 I sold mine about 6 months ago but enjoyed it for the years I had it.

If I had a 30carbine revolver I would be looking at faster burning pistol powders that would never cycle an m1 carbine.

Not if you want full power loads. Analogous to .357 Mag., WW296/H110 vs. 38 Spl.

Those shorter cases might give you problems with flaring and crimping adjustments but no need to reduce powder.

When I had mine back in the 70's I used 2400 for lead and W296 for jacketed. One loud caliber, add a large cylinder gap for fun. Was a fun gun to shoot. I had a pistol scope on mine.

I use my .30 Carbine NM Blackhawk with .32-20 ammo. This only works with the New Model's.
