I got back from the range with some surprising results. I loaded my 30 Carbine rounds with 15 grains of H110 and topped them off with 115 grain Linotype bullets. I also had some Buffalo Bore 30 Carbine (110 grains) rounds with me.

I fired these rounds from my Ruger Blackhawk. Now Buffalo Bore advertises 1580 FPS from their loads with the Blackhawk. With my loads I got an average of 1680 FPS; Buffalo Bore got on average 1380 FPS.

Typically BB meets their mark but fell well short this time. I exceeded their advertised velocity but I was packing a slightly heavier load. Now the curious thing is BB advertised velocity for the 125 grain 30 Carbine rounds is 1680 FPS, higher than their 110 grain rounds.

I’ve heard tell before of actually increasing velocity with heavier bullets. It’s this such a case?

BTW, I examined all the primers for both mine and theirs and saw no signs of over pressure. And there were no sticky cases when I ejected them.
