Quick question before I commit.....I just got in my coated Bayou Bullets order - 9mm - 115 and am using Accurate #5 - looking up lead bullets data I am reading a start of 5.2......does this sound about right? It's a little hard for a newbie to get load data on coated bullets so figured I'd play it safe and ask first.

That's what the latest data says and it is with a COL of 1.070" which is kind of short for a 9mm.
If you are going to start with a longer COL, like say , 1.1" it may not cycle the slide. So be ready for that. If it doesn't cycle then jump up about .2gr and try that.
Load about 10 of the 5.2 gr and try them before loading anymore.
What OAL were you planning on starting with?

Thanks for the reply - good catch on the COL as I would have gone with the standard I use for RMR, 1.12. I'll stick with the 1.070 as listed and then try to bump up .2 if the slide doesn't cycle. Max is 6.1 so I should be good to go another .2 as you suggested and still be well within safe loads. Great information and I really appreciate the quick response.

Coated bullets are far closer to lead bullets than jacketed or plated. But you could use load data for any of the above, observe the typical safety precautions, and be fine.

There is generally a strong correlation between longer OAL and higher max recommended charges in 9mm recipes. I tend to keep my OAL on the longer end unless it causes me a problem.
